Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Much better than the movie!
Revisado: 07-26-23
I hesitated to read (or listen, rather) to this story for so long because I was so unmoved by the movie, but LET ME ASSURE YOU that the movie doesn't hold a candle to this. It's a fun adventure that pays so much homage to classic video games and 80s pop culture. It is insanely fun! I don't think the movie really captured the charm, so if you are like me and are reluctant since the movie didn't resonate, I promise you that you will be pleasantly surprised by this! Also, Wil Wheaton captures this story's charisma and delivers it beautifully!

Historia
Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Incredible story!
Revisado: 09-05-22
I really loved the story and the characters! As a fan of classic metal, I really enjoyed a lot of the references too! The prose are incredible and added a wonderful haunting imagery. The narrator was also really good and added depth to the characters! The only thing I didn't like was the random industrial melody that would interrupt at random intervals. Like why? But otherwise, I really loved this! I haven't felt this drawn in and excited by a book in a long time!

Historia
Ryn has one unread text message on her phone. And it's been there for almost a year. She hasn't tried to read it. She can't. She won't. Because that one message is the last thing her best friend ever said to her before she died. But as Ryn finds herself trapped in the Denver International Airport on New Year's Eve thanks to a never-ending blizzard on the one-year anniversary of her best friend's death, fate literally runs into her. And his name is Xander.

I am in tears
Revisado: 02-28-22
After reading "Save the Cat! Writes a Novel," I was very curious to read one of Jessica Brody's published works. The reason I chose this one is because I live in Denver, and I love traveling via DIA, and I love the conspiracy theories and landmarks, so I figured I would really enjoy a story set there. LITTLE DID I REALIZE I was getting myself into a book that was going to bring about many tears and really speak to my heart. Ryn and her love for her lost friend moved me deeply. Her adventures with Xander were endearing, and there were so many moments that had me laughing too. I really enjoyed the whole character arc of Ryn and how there was more beneath the surface with Xander too and even coming to understand Lottie more deeply. I'll leave it there because I don't want to spoil anything, but suffice it to say that I really enjoyed this read. I wept a lot, but it felt good!
Also, as the introvert that as a teenager was dragged into questionable situations by a wilder, more extroverted bestie, I will be appreciating and hugging said extroverted bestie a little more tightly. ♡

Historia
What makes a romance novel a romance? Writing a well-structured romance isn't the same as writing any other genre - something the popular novel and screenwriting guides don't address. The romance arc is made up of its own story beats. Told in conversational (and often irreverent) prose, Romancing the Beat is like sitting down to coffee with romance editor and author Gwen Hayes while she explains story structure - the way she does with her clients, some of whom are regular inhabitants of the best-seller lists.

Could've used more detail
Revisado: 02-13-22
I feel like this was a good introduction into romancing story beats, but I feel like it could've went into more detail (for example, how would the beats apply to a slow burn versus one where they start getting together earlier in the story) and wished it would've used examples like the Save the Cat story beats book did, but for an under $5 book that was a one hour listen, I can't really complain. I liked the quirkiness, and the narrator was fantastic!
