I loved the story.
little predictable but very entertaining. I saw few complaints in other comments about the female narrator, but I thought she was great and have no complaints.

awsomeness!

awesomeness! absolutely loved it. At first it was little annoying, I didn't care much for the narrator. the voices she had for characters verent great.but the. story strays out slowly but you catch up and start connecting things half way through, so amazing in the end.

Historia
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

Great book, thought provoking and educational 👍
Revisado: 03-03-21
I almost didn't get this book because of the low score reviews. All I can say is: read it for yourself. I am glad I have changed my mind. I could not put it away!
I have read the previous book series, and I liked it a LOT. I have spent 8 hours of driving between SLC and DEN taking to my husband about those books, and shortly after, he read them too (and he liked them as well).
This book and the series are similar in the aspect of how dependent our society is on electricity. The difference is between human controlled EMP and CME of which we have no control or protection over. The authors purpose was to bring awareness of those issues and he succeeded 100%.
To those who complain how many times the author mentions coronal mass ejection and other scientific terms, please remember that a lot of people reading/ listening to this book have no idea that those terms exist and those abbreviations have no meaning in regular, everyday vocabulary.
Narration was good little over the top and kind of annoying in the very begging of the book, when he was portraying "Mr. Science 's" explanation of CME, but other than that I found the performance very entertaining and enjoyable.

Historia
Ten years ago, Claire Hines lost her unborn child - and her short-term memory - following a heartrending tragedy. With notebooks, calendars, to-do lists, fractured pieces of the past, and her father’s support, Claire makes it through each day, hour by hour, with relative confidence. She also has a close-knit community of friends in the remote Alaskan town where she teaches guitar to the local children. It’s there, in the reminders. As determined as Claire is to regain all that’s disappeared, she’d prefer to live without some memories of her before life.

Slow and very predictable
Revisado: 02-24-21
Good narration, story in itself is extremely predictable and that was the most annoying part. Overall good characters and book succeeded in making me cry few times but development was way to slow especially when you know exactly what's comming next.

On a picturesque street in Sacramento County, California, three healthy saplings stand side by side. But what they symbolize are the deaths of three innocent people - two of them children. The man who took their lives, then planted trees in their honor, was their own husband and father. Hearts went out to Jack Barron when his wife, Irene, died mysteriously in her sleep. Soon after, his two young children were also found dead in their beds. Barron claimed they suffered from the same rare genetic disorder as their mother.

slow and repetitive

the story was dragging on, especially towards the end. Way to long, some of the details described do not add to the story, just add word count.

Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

great story
Revisado: 08-27-19
OK... Just finished this book. It will definitely be one I will remember. Very loooooong read. It gets slow in at least 3 parts in the middle and was not moving the story forward. I thought I am going to just drop it, but I am glad that I didn't. Great opening, captivating and jumping right into action. And what an surprising ending, it truly turned and changed several times. The main character isn't very likeable. He does show growth in his final monologue (that was almost as painful to read as John Galt's speach in Atlas Shrugged) and lost me on several points. Overall I would definitely recommend this book!
I 😍 📖
