Fine story
Revisado: 05-16-24
Fine story and listen but little in terms of build up or twist. The plot was set up for all kinds of stories and turns but in the end nothing happens. Potential was A+, execution was a C.

Love John Cory, probably my least favorite of seriesoff series
Revisado: 11-16-22
Cory, probably my least favorite of the series. Hope there is one more though he may have closed the book on John with this one. I’d like to see one more thriller with a little more depth.

Historia
The Unexpected Spy is the riveting story of Walder's tenure in the CIA and, later, the FBI. In high-security, steel-walled rooms in Virginia, Walder watched al-Qaeda members with drones as President Bush looked over her shoulder and CIA Director George Tenet brought her donuts. She tracked chemical terrorists and searched the world for Weapons of Mass Destruction. She created a chemical terror chart that someone in the White House altered to convey information she did not have or believe, leading to the Iraq invasion.

Interesting read
Revisado: 05-07-22
My biggest problem in the book is how much was removed by the government and it was not edited afterwards. Stories, paragraphs, key words are removed and no effort was performed to rewrite these in more generic or acceptable ways. It makes for a more difficult read. If the book was edited to address these gaps, it would be so much better.
Very interesting story though.

Amazing in every way
Revisado: 08-03-21
When the audio book started, it mentioned two performers/readers. A voice came on that sounded a lot like Elton John but just different enough that I thought they had found a British reader with a similar sound. I've heard enough audio books where the author does the prolog, or a Q&A afterwards to not expect Elton to be the one reading the book when there were two names listed. I was blown away by the reader, the emotion in his voice, the sadness, the grief, the happiness. You could literally feel the authors true mood and feelings at each moment. At the end when I realized the other reader was just there for one chapter that was added later, I was blown away even more. Elton John could have made a living doing audio books. It was probably the best read I have ever heard. He was magnificent in every way. If you read the book, but haven't heard him read it, do yourself a favor and listen to it as well.
As for the book, it was very good. As with all autobiographies, you see the world through the author's eyes. But he didn't try to make it glossy, or glorious, or overly dramatic. It felt like he tried to be authentically honest. He admitted when his view was different than others, but just stated what he saw and encountered. His life from the second he became famous is a collection of whose who of A list celebrities. He does not mention them in a bragging way, you just get a feel for how normal people can be or want to be. John Lennon, George Michael, etc, they all come in and out of the story along with 100's of other names you'll recognize. He also has an interesting way of telling you what some of the songs are about. He doesn't have a segment or chapter dedicated to this. He just mentions it when the song interweaves with his life. A great follow up would be to take the songs and tell the story behind them. I would read that in a heart beat. Some may be too personal to share, but when possible, this would be a great follow up book. In the end, you see Elton as a flawed human (as we all are) trying to make the best of his lot in life. It feels authentic, genuine, and a fairytale all at the same time. I was also amazed at his ability to separate people from opinions. He interacts with all types of people who have different opinions than he does, and while he acknowledges this, he doesn't belittle them for who they are or were. Much different than how society currently treats people with an opinion they don't like.

Too much war and tactics
Revisado: 07-24-21
The book starts of normally, the next thing know you have 29 hours of war tactics and then the last 30 minutes are a novel again. Get the abridged version. Not one of Clancy's best. While the premise of the start to WW3 is possible, it's kind of odd that one groups terrorist actions are basically completely ignored while a war is started with another. The entire thing, while possible, just doesn't really work.

Historia
Two women have gone missing, and LAPD detective Harry Bosch has a strong suspicion that an avid fisherman named Denninger is the culprit. Bosch needs something stronger than a suspicion to bring Denninger in, but all he has are a handful of photos - prior mug shots and pictures of Denninger posing with his prize fish. It's not much to go on, and Bosch is running out of time, which is why he calls in FBI agent Rachel Walling. What she sees in these photos could blow his case wide open.

Good, typical baldacci
Revisado: 03-29-21
There Narrators were common for baldacci books but I thought the voice for Michelle just didn’t work this time. Not sure if they have used someone else on this previous series or not but she felt portrayed in a different light. The story has lots of twists and turns but never built to the height of some of the other books by him or even with these characters. Worth a listen but nothing to rush out and buy.
