Historia
The members of the Polaris Project knew what they were giving up when they volunteered to fly to the star named Angel-21, but the allure of being the first explorers to leave the Solar System far outweighed the risks. As it turned out, the most dangerous thing they faced wasn't the mission, it was the homecoming. Eight hundred years have passed, and Earth is nothing like they thought it would be.

I don’t know what a page turner is on audible …anxious ear? Whatever it is, I found myself keen to see what would happen next. Without giving anything away, I found the behavior of the crew and scientists somewhat far-fetched. I guess it could happen tho.

Historia
Andrew Roberts' Napoleon is the first one-volume biography to take advantage of the recent publication of Napoleon's thirty-three thousand letters, which radically transform our understanding of his character and motivation. At last we see him as he was: protean multitasker, decisive, surprisingly willing to forgive his enemies and his errant wife Josephine.

A must read for parents
Revisado: 05-13-15
The statistics are terrifying and we should all take note and take care.
That said, Krakauer clearly has a bias and "takes sides", assuming guilt in all cases. The men in the cases cited may very well be guilty--but one gets the feeling that he believes all accused are guilty--perhaps it is more in the performance than the writing--hard to say.
Friends, look out for each other.

A great listen that should have never been written
Revisado: 11-09-12
I couldn't resist.
Despite knowing that this guy had broken all kinds of codes, I listened.
It was interesting and a great glimpse into and SF life.
It is well written.
I was seduced by the idea that much of the proceeds would go to widows and families of fallen warriors.
I have since discovered that they have refused it and that more is going to the author than I knew.
If you're looking for huge secrets or major insights, there really aren't any. There are details.
I'd say the book is 80% about coming up in the SEALS with 20% on the actual mission.
The author has since been silenced by the SF community.
You have to decide whether just buying it is encouraging this type of thing or not...
It makes a statement,
If i could do it over again, I'd pass.

Gabriel Allon still interesting. I found there to be quite a bit of repetition in this book--a couple ideas and thoughts but still a very fun listen.
If you haven't listened to the series, worth going back to catch up!

Still good but a bit too preachy
Revisado: 08-13-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
BC's books are great. And this narrator is one of the best, if not THE best. But BC has a tendency to slip into sanctimony at times. The story starts strong but, for me, toward the end especially, it gets too preachy about womens' rights, the environment, capitalism...
it's fine when the characters play out their flaws and talents but the multi page lectures on what's right and wrong were too many and too obvious.
As always, it's worth a listen, but not the best
Would you recommend Fishing for Stars to your friends? Why or why not?
Yes
What about Humphrey Bower’s performance did you like?
Everything. He is a master
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
yes

Historia
Neanderthals have developed a radically different civilization on a parallel Earth. A Neanderthal physicist, Ponter Boddit, accidentally passes from his universe into a Canadian underground research facility. Fortunately, a team of human scientists, including expert paleo-anthropologist Mary Vaughan, promptly identifies and warmly receives Ponter. Solving the language problem and much else is a mini-computer, called a Companion, implanted in the brain of every Neanderthal. But it can't help his fellow scientist back in his world, Adikor Huld, when the authorities charge Adikor with his murder.

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

Part 3 still great!
Revisado: 07-21-12
If you could sum up Solomon's Song in three words, what would they be?
Moving, Epic, Wish it would keep going
I am loving all of Bryce's books. As a fellow adman I am jealous and appreciative of his command of storytelling. Nice mix of moral, interest and, of course, all the wonderful Aussie and S. African turns of phrase and expressions. Makes me feel dumbs a box of hair :)
Humphrey Bower is the new king of narrators.
He rivals and surpasses in some ways Scott Brick and John Lee.
Amazing with accents, characters and emphasis
The Courtenay books are the best I have listened to in years! And I have 2 accounts listening to about 5 a month while super commuting.
You will love
Enjoy!
Have you listened to any of Humphrey Bower’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
All great
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

With 4 hours of driving a day and 2 accounts I go through a lot of books!
This is great!
Demille does a fantastic job of deconstructing the war through his characters--both here and in other books. He gives us a soul victory if not a military one.
Great Story.
Scott Brick is the absolute best!
