Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Great story, but what the heck?
Revisado: 12-14-20
Uncertain why they went with the half voice acted approach, where part of the story is read by one person, and the rest is read by a cast. It caused a disjointed and confusing reading. And the voice talent for the cast-read sections was just plain bad. Really took away from the experience.

Historia
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

Great storytelling of some amazing stories
Revisado: 08-07-18
So glad Neil Gaiman decided to perform this one himself. You can really tell how much he loves these stories. I always thought the stories of Norse mythology were really interesting and unique, and Neil Gaiman REALLY brings them to life!

This was a really good story truly made better by one of the best voice performances I've ever heard. Bronson Pinchot really brought the story to life.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Science has never been so interesting
Revisado: 03-19-16
Would you consider the audio edition of A Short History of Nearly Everything to be better than the print version?
I've never read the print version, so I don't know. I like it in audio because the free time that I have is in the car on the way to and from work. Actually made me look forward to my commute.
What did you like best about this story?
Well, it isn't really a story. It's a history. I was impressed at how personal Bryson made that history by including so much of the personal stories and personalities of the folks involved. I also liked the way he attempted to describe difficult concepts in terms most folks can grasp.
What about Richard Matthews’s performance did you like?
EXCELLENT voice! Kind of like David Attenborough.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Nope
Any additional comments?
Nope

Historia
Four hundred years in the future the Earth has turned primitive, following a nuclear fire that laid waste to civilization and nature. Though the radiation fallout has ended, for some unknowable reason every person is born with a twin. Of each pair one is an Alpha - physically perfect in every way - and the other an Omega burdened with deformity, small or large.

Mediocre
Revisado: 03-19-16
Would you try another book from Francesca Haig and/or Lauren Fortgang?
I'd listen to another book read by Fortgang, but I wasn't particularly impressed by Haig's writing. Not going to bother with the next book in the series.
Would you ever listen to anything by Francesca Haig again?
Probably not. I figured out the plot twist as soon as she introduced the character the twist was based on, and I'm quite tired of books where two boys fight over one girl so she feels special. It's a little bit stale and overdone. For all the time that was spent on character development, the characters were shallow and predictable.
What three words best describe Lauren Fortgang’s voice?
Men sound mean
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Depends on whether the imagery and set design made it worthwhile. I would if it were filled with H.R. Giger-esque dystopian imagery.
Any additional comments?
Nope.
