Historia
Vern - seven months pregnant and desperate to escape the strict religious compound where she was raised - flees for the shelter of the woods. There, she gives birth to twins, and plans to raise them far from the influence of the outside world. But even in the forest, Vern is a hunted woman. Forced to fight back against the community that refuses to let her go, she unleashes incredible brutality far beyond what a person should be capable of, her body wracked by inexplicable and uncanny changes.

great story
Revisado: 07-13-23
I really enjoyed this book! I could listen to the narrator's voice all day and night. It had a good ending, but I was sad it was over.

Historia
Black women are the single most religious demographic in the United States, yet they are among the poorest, least educated, and least healthy groups in the nation. Drawing on the author's own past experience as an evangelical minister and her present work as a secular counselor and researcher, The Ebony Exodus Project makes a direct connection between the church and the plight of black women.

Loved This
Revisado: 11-24-22
Gorham verbalized so many things I've felt and experienced but could not explain. It may be difficult for some Christians to read or listen to because it's a critique of the Bible and specifically the Black church. However, it is SO necessary and shines a light on the psychological pressures that are normalized for Black women in the church. It needs to be talked about! It needs to be heard!

Historia
The Vignes twin sisters will always be identical. But after growing up together in a small, Southern Black community and running away at age 16, it's not just the shape of their daily lives that is different as adults, it's everything: Their families, their communities, their racial identities. Many years later, one sister lives with her Black daughter in the same Southern town she once tried to escape. The other secretly passes for White, and her White husband knows nothing of her past.

Excellent Narration & Great Story
Revisado: 11-24-22
I got very attached to the characters. The narrator changes her voice for each character and maintains a good pace. I was sad when the book ended.

Great Story!
Revisado: 11-18-22
This was a great book! I finished it in 2 days. The main character was very relatable and I loved the references to locations in Atlanta. The sisterhood aspect is definitely something I've experienced since moving to ATL several months ago. I just LOVED this book and she narrated excellently!
