Historia
Sy Montgomery's popular 2011 Orion magazine piece, "Deep Intellect", about her friendship with a sensitive, sweet-natured octopus named Athena and the grief she felt at her death, went viral, indicating the widespread fascination with these mysterious, almost alien-like creatures. Since then Sy has practiced true immersion journalism, from New England aquarium tanks to the reefs of French Polynesia and the Gulf of Mexico, pursuing these wild, solitary shape-shifters.

I loved the excitement of the author as she read. I love all the knowledge I gained as I fell in love with each octopus. Excellent book on every way!

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Loads of Bad Language!!!
Revisado: 02-02-23
If the language doesn’t bother you, maybe you’ll like this book. I tolerated it for awhile, but finally had to give up. A full paragraph of nothing but the “f” word, over and over. Characters that seemed to use it in every sentence. Not for me. Too bad. I heard that the story was good, but I’ll never know.

I enjoyed the story, but I was really distracted by the narrator's accent and odd pronunciations.

Best CFM Podcast!
Revisado: 07-10-21
I have listened to several different CFM podcasts and I have enjoyed most of them, but this one tops them all. The guests are all extremely knowledgeable and bring new insights into each chapter. I loved studying with one of the other podcasts, but my depth of understanding and my desire to learn and study more has increased as I’ve listened to “Follow Him” each week. Thanks to Hank Smith and John Bytheway for putting this together, and to each of their guests for sharing their knowledge and testimonies.

Historia
Last year, Rachel Bacharach met the man of her dreams at a Hanukkah party — and then her outgoing best friend Tamara swooped in and “called” Oz Caplan for herself. It’s a typical outcome for the dependable, bookish Rachel, who is never able to extinguish the spark she immediately felt for Oz. But being secretly in love with her best friend’s boyfriend all year hasn’t been easy.

Fun, but not quite believable.
Revisado: 12-01-20
The story was fun and not overly complicated. My only real complaint is that I can’t see the characters, who are active in the Jewish faith, being okay with a daughter moving in with a single guy. Either the dedication to their faith, or the lack of morals has to go. As is, it’s hypocritical.

Nick Winters and Noel Carter have known each other their whole lives. After years of shared family holidays, working together on the Winters’ Christmas tree farm, and being each other's safe haven, they wouldn't dream of crossing the line from friends to something more.... But when Nick comes home for the holidays after serving overseas and finds that his long-term girlfriend has decided to get her stocking stuffed elsewhere, Noel is there to pick him up and show him that instead of a Blue Christmas he can still have a Wonderful Christmastime without his cheating ex.

Revisado: 12-01-20
Didn’t get very far into this book before I had to give it up. I’ve heard worse language, but there were an awful lot of the “little” swear words in the first couple chapters. It just didn’t feel like a fun little Christmas RomCom, which is what I was hoping for.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 11-20-20
I can’t say I was really interested in this book from the start. I had lived in Berlin, so I thought that would interest me, but the general description just didn’t entice me. Knowing what I know now, it would be top of my list! By the end of the story I was engulfed in the characters. I cried with them and for them. The story illustrates characters and characteristics that have, largely, been lost in time. It was wonderful to step back and see them again.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Read volumes 12 & 13 instead!
Revisado: 05-22-20
The narrator for the previous books passed away and her loss is very noticeable in this book and the next in the series. Georgie is different. Darcy’s pleasurable Irish lilt is lost and a majority of the other characters are all read as if they had just woken up from a long winter’s nap, or, they have an ugly speech impediment. I had such a great time listening to this series until this volume. I still enjoyed the story — same fun mystery, but I found myself critiquing the delivery of each line instead of focusing on the story. I truly missed the previous voice of Darcy. He just doesn’t have the same appeal now. Sad.

Please Tell Me There's More to Come!
Revisado: 04-13-20
I've read or listened to this entire series now and I've loved every moment! For me, the Irish dialog connects me to my own Irish ancestry and makes me think of what their lives must have been like. I think also of my mother, who grew up in a log cabin in one of the beautiful valleys of Wyoming. Sara Eden has created such a beautiful blending of the historical struggles with the development of rich characters, each of whom has their own histories to overcome, and she does it all with ease and believability! There are more characters to explore, and I sure hope she takes the time to write their stories as well. If I could, I'd move right into town with them all!

Survival for Ki Lim and Sang Ly is a daily battle at Stung Mean Chey, the largest municipal waste dump in all of Cambodia. They make their living scavenging recyclables from the trash. Life would be hard enough without the worry for their chronically ill child, Nisay, and the added expense of medicines that are not working. Just when things seem worst, Sang Ly learns a secret about the ill-tempered rent collector who comes demanding money - a secret that sets in motion a tide that will change the life of everyone it sweeps past.

A book worth reading (or listening to)
Revisado: 08-22-17
A friend recommended this book several years ago, and I added it to my list. My only regret, is that I did not read it immediately. "The Rent Collector" is one of those books that adds goodness to your soul and improves your character. Don't put it off!
