Historia
Hannibal Lecter emerges from the nightmare of the Eastern Front, a boy in the snow, mute, with a chain around his neck. He seems utterly alone, but he has brought his demons with him. Hannibal’s uncle, a noted painter, finds him in a Soviet orphanage and brings him to France, where Hannibal will live with his uncle and his uncle’s beautiful and exotic wife, Lady Murasaki. But Hannibal’s demons visit him and torment him. When he is old enough, he visits them in turn. He discovers he has gifts beyond the academic, and in that epiphany, Hannibal Lecter becomes death’s prodigy.

Historia
It sounds like a modern day Lifetime movie: two talented, popular and wealthy men both fall in love with the same beautiful but somewhat tarnished girl. One had a long history of mental illness, the other was considered an architectural genius. The inevitable showdown, complete with a very public murder, took place in one of the most fashionable restaurants in the world.

Historia
Bronx-born top turret-gunner Arthur Meyerowitz was on his second mission when he was shot down in 1943. He was one of only two men on the B-24 Liberator known as Harmful Lil Armful who escaped death or immediate capture on the ground. After fleeing the wreck, Arthur knocked on the door of an isolated farmhouse, whose owners hastily took him in. Fortunately, his hosts not only despised the Nazis but had a tight connection to the French resistance group Morhange and its founder, Marcel Taillandier.

This is the true story of a chief engineer/top turrant gunman who was shot down over France in 1944, yet managed to escape arrest thanks to the French underground. Well told and we'll researched. Since my dad was a WWII combat glider pilot, Oliver Carmichael Faris who crash landed 7 times in training and in combat, I can relate.

Historia
With her marriage prospects limited, teenage Varina Howell agrees to wed the much-older widower Jefferson Davis, with whom she expects a life of security as a landowner. He instead pursues a career in politics and is eventually appointed president of the Confederacy, placing Varina at the white-hot center of one of the darkest moments in American history - culpable regardless of her intentions. The Confederacy falling, her marriage in tatters, and the country divided, Varina and her children escape Richmond and travel south on their own, now fugitives.

another great story of Jefferson Davis' wife
Revisado: 05-08-19
I really enjoyed this book, as it tells the true and yet unheard story of a woman who mixed with presidents and adopted an abused black kid and raised him as her own. it was interesting throughout and so surprising since she ended up being best friends with US Grants wife after the civil war.

Historia
January 1864: General Robert E. Lee faces defeat. The Army of Northern Virginia is ragged and ill-equipped. Gettysburg has broken the back of the Confederacy and decimated its manpower. Then, Andries Rhoodie, a strange man with an unplaceable accent, approaches Lee with an extraordinary offer. Rhoodie demonstrates an amazing rifle: its rate of fire is incredible, its lethal efficiency breathtaking - and Rhoodie guarantees unlimited quantities to the Confederates. The name of the weapon is the AK-47.

I have been waiting on this audible version
Revisado: 10-05-18
I loved this book from the moment I first heard it on Radio Reader way back in 1999. That edition was surely abridged, which just as good as this one. it is a long book and there are parts that got a little testy but I am still glad I took the time to listen to it on audible.
Now if someone would just record an audio version of The Spectrum Conspiracy by Craig Faris, I'll be a happy man.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Eric Larson is a master of the non fiction genre.
Revisado: 10-09-17
This is the fourth Eric Larson book that I have read. I usually read suspense fiction but Eric has such a knack of making each of these true stories come to life with such detail and suspense, that it sometimes feels like fiction. I addition to this book, I recommend his Devil in the White City, about a serial murderer at the 1893 World's Fair, his Issac's Storm, about the great Galviston hurricane of 1900 which kill up to 12,000 soals, and In the Garden of the Beasts about Berlin, Germany during the rise of Hitler.
I am hoping that eventually he will tell the almost forgotten story of Titanic's last sister ship, the Britannic which was also sunk during the first World War. Brovo for writing such great stories!
