Historia
Nicholas “Coal” Claus used to love Christmas. Until his father, the reigning Santa, turned the holiday into a PR façade. Coal will do anything to escape the spectacle, including getting tangled in a drunken, supremely hot make-out session with a beautiful man behind a seedy bar one night. But the heir to Christmas is soon commanded to do his duty: he will marry his best friend, Iris, the Easter Princess and his brother’s not-so-secret crush. A situation that has disaster written all over it. Things go from bad to worse when a rival arrives to challenge Coal for the princess’s hand.

Brilliant, a firm favorite already
Revisado: 01-16-25
I got this on Audible and read it as an Audiobook. I think that was the correct chice because the narrator is incredible and the story really comes to life much more entirely than I believe it would have as text only.
I have to say, Prince Hez mentions near the end of this book that he experienced the whole spectrum of human emotion in 40 minutes. I did so in the 15 or so hours of this book. It's a feat not every author or narrator can pull out of me.
So this is a fictional fantasy young adult rom-com where each holiday is like a monarchy with a full Royal Court and ruling family. Our main boy is Coal, the Prince of Christmas, who is bissexual and obviously emotionally scarred by his tumultuous family life. One day, while traying to spread joy to the world, Coal commits what seems to be a colossal mistake, which leads him to a drunken yet life changing ecounter with a mysterious dark stranger.
Months later, as Santa Claus plots to pretty much conquer the whole world, this dark figure comes back to his life as none other than Prince Hex of Halloween, a suitor for Princess Iris of Easter in a twist not-quite love triangle, and the attraction is undeniable, setting Coal on a whole new path in life.
A lot of people have been saying how impossible and non-sensical this book is but... it is romantasy as its core, I think, so I think it makes sense in its own way. I actually think this worldbuilding is pretty thorough and crearive, I quite like the humor in it. I think there is a certain degree of self-awareness.
I loved how nuanced the characters are, I became really invested in all four protagonisrs, but especially Coal and Hex, who are pretty much thorougly explored in all of their facets here. I really liked them, I think they were really welt built and fleshed our. I love how the love story progressed. It was fun, and wmotional, and very true I felt like. Oh, and very sexy, to the pooint that it got me bothered in puublic transportation. Also often laughing out loud and treay eyed at times. Sreiously rare.
Finally, as for the woke metaphors and messages... I don't think it's that deep,or that political, to be honest. It's just a social commentary, and in my opionion quite clever at times.
I really wanna see Kris and Iris get their respective happy endings now. NOW

Agatha brought to life
Revisado: 11-18-24
This Audible production came at just the right time, because I had gotten curious about Agatha Christie the days before, can't remember why. I believe it is her first published novel, and the first Poirot novel as well. This dramatized adaptation is quite short, so an easy listen, in my opinion.
Its is a very cozy period mystery about a small towbm and as to be expected from the Queen herself, a classic whodunnit murder mystery. It well developed and certainly nice to listen to, I didn't find it particularly gripping, but it didn't turn me away from the autjor at all.
As with all of Aduivle Originals, it is beautifully acted and produced, really atmospheric and beautiful soundtrack, really bring the work to life.

Historia
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Very good investigative storytelling
Revisado: 10-12-24
Pulse is the story of the Pulse nightclub shooting. It is a very good investigative piece that presents facts in an engaging way. I wasn't familiar with this story and I quite enjoyed. I just didn't feel a personal connection to it, but that's okay.

Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

One of the best
Revisado: 09-28-24
I'm pretty sure this is one of my fave reads of the year. I kinda don't know why exactly, but it just hit the perfec spot. It's a bit carcastic, a bit funny vut not too focused on comedy, fairytale style but realistically relatable... of yeah, and it is a brother's best frienf story but without the heavy forbidden love shade. Yup a bit of damagted foods trope, a bit of second chance as well... but I don't think it is the tropes, it is just how well they all work tohether to create a unique and refreshing story. One that is modern and hopeful at the same time. And while I'm not always the biggest fan of smut, this one was really hot! I did prefer the female narrator to the male, he was a bit deadpan for my liking.

Great performances, a but predictable
Revisado: 08-14-24
This is good. Especially the performances. I did expect more from the plot, given it is a James Patterson storyy. It was a bit predictable at times.

Cute, but they might as well be speaking Spanish
Revisado: 08-14-24
So I found this on Audible's Plus catalog, andI just can't resist a good romance. Not to mention the timing for this, which pretty much coincided with the book's timing and was just before my own Spanish getawat. I love that this is British rom-com, as I don't know many, and I think my previous listen from this author was much more serious.
Not that this one isn't. It does have a good old undertone of connection tghrough loss. And the declarations are sure to weaken your knees and make you tear up. For real. I was floored on chapter 22. Then again laughing two chapters later. And smiling at the end. And that's a great thing, because a good book, especially audiobook, makes you go on a rollercoaster of emotions. As this does.
Yhr story is a bit tropey and also somewhat predictable, which is annoying. I could see some of the events from a mile away, and it was infuriating that Lucy, the protagonist is so caught up in her own head that she doesn't, But then, who hasn't?
I lived for the epilogue. TThat was everything - after the aforementioned twenty-something chapter. I spent mpst of the bppk waiting for it, and not because it was the end. It was just cute and sweey.
No need to explain the plot, you have the blurb for that.

Performance was good, syory not my favorite
Revisado: 05-22-24
I got this in my library att Latino month. I was looking to epand my horizons. I ended up listening to this much later. The story is fairly straightforward - a young black latina is at a crossroads after her career hits a roadblock and she is forced to go home to the Heights.
This is a recording of her own therapy sessions, as well as her journey rebuilding her life and career and her clients' stories. It is fairly insightful and funny. Definitely well acted. But for some reason I didn't connect to it. Maybe because these experiences aren«t really something I related to.
But I enjoyed trying something different.

A fantastic reimagining and performance
Revisado: 05-18-24
I started reading Orwell a couple of years ago. I got through Animal Farm fine, but 1984 has proven to be a struggle, so I was really excited to see this performed audiobook. It all sounded amazing, from the cast to the msuic to the simple idea of reimagining this story.
And this didn't disappoint. The performances are amazing and made the obviously complex story more engaging and accessible. I may be missing something, but while this story is certainly an interesting thought process - don't alert the Thought Police please - and analysis of the phenomena of extremist and totalitarian societies. I dp not think it is as timely as some might think. I'm not going to go into it now.
The twist wasn't much of a twist to me. But it works as a heartbreaking lessoj. Which we all would do well to learn and take to heart.
An essential listen in my book.
