A. long. Story
Revisado: 01-05-22
It takes a very long time to get to where the story starts to move, but when it does it moves.
Perhaps you have to understand scandanavian culture to see how the action is action.
I enjoyed it and like the narrator s voice. Appropriate .

Society's eligible women are in mourning. Lord Peter Wimsey has married at last, having finally succeeded in his ardent pursuit of the lovely mystery novelist Harriet Vane. The two depart for a tranquil honeymoon in a country farmhouse but find, instead of a well-prepared love nest, the place left in a shambles by the previous owner. His sudden appearance, dead from a broken skull in the cellar, only prompts more questions. The honeymoon is over, as Lord Peter and Harriet Vane start their investigations.

Whimsey exposed
Revisado: 09-30-21
Ian Carmichael is Peter Whimsey.
DS must have had a blast expanding on the primary characters and showing them off in connection with each other.
There are the usual twists and turns along the way with no great AHA moments but coloured liberally with the honeymoon couple joy of learning each other better.
I have listened at least 4 times to this. It is a soothing enjoyable read with many favorite parts (Harriet in the library, Duchess diary etc). The abridged version may give you the flavor but it is by no means the full meal.
If you like Peter Whimsey you will love this.

The legendary love story and the major motion picture starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. This is the story of Robert Kincaid, the photographer and free spirit searching for the covered bridges of Madison County, and Francesca Johnson, the farm wife waiting for fulfillment of a girlhood dream. It shows readers what it is to love and be loved so intensely that life is never the same again.

Historia
In true Dickensian fashion, The Old Curiosity Shop offers a humorous yet devastating depiction of both the most honourable and most corrupt members of 19th-century English society. Hailed by Queen Victoria as being ‘interesting and cleverly written', The Old Curiosity Shop introduces listeners to the uniquely colourful characters of Nell Trent, her young friend, Kit, her doting grandfather and the evil moneylender to whom they all fall prey, Daniel Quilp.

Dickens should have been an orator. His prose carries me away to a time long past.
Sometimes this work is overwhelmingly in its description of the life and lives of it's characters but he manages to involve you.

Revisado: 05-05-21
having been a grandparent for 16 years I can say where were you then? There's so much here that resonates that I have to say this is a must read for all prospective grandparents and even for parents.
Much of what is wrong in families is communication and even silent communication.
There's so much more that a mere review won't do.

I loved the voice of a young person telling the tale. Reminiscent of Where the red fern grows from that standpoint but not in content.
Christmas recollections are often strong because of all past season s. that get brought out by traditions and customs.

In many genres C S Lewis writing inspires and brings us near to God our loving father.
If parents still read to their children read these books aloud for their benefit and their own.

Historia
Three perplexing puzzles - and three inimitable Wimsey solutions - told with wit, humor, and suspense. Narrator Ian Carmichael, the quintessential Lord Peter, provides great entertainment with his talented performance of these three stories. In "Striding Folly", a frightening dream provides a haunting premonition. A house numbered 13 is in a street of even numbers, and a dead man was never alive in "The Haunted Policeman." And "Talboys" sees Lord Peter's own children accused of theft.

Delightful!!
Revisado: 09-26-20
I felt like I was catching up with old friends.
It was wonderful to see how Harriet maintains her literary life while watching over a brood of children.
Lord Peter glows as a father and lives an enchanted existence through and with his eldest son.
Bunter though in a much diminished capacity is still available for carrying out services that are so not ordinary.
Missed Lord Peter's mother. I love that character.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Hang on to your seat.
Revisado: 09-09-20
Never boring reading a Stephen King novel. The reader gave life to the vibrant character s although sometimes difficult to hear.
We live in a world where the abuses put on the children are not unheard of even while they are difficult to fathom. People's reactions both in real life and fiction say more of the character in whatever stage of life they are at.
Thank God there are usually some characters who add comic relief and give some mental space to assimilate where the story is heading.
Glad to see a less than vivacious female in a leading character who is constantly overcoming her own fears.
Well done.

Although a biography you are pulled along in the telling, anxious for the next part of his life.
A mostly linear story the regression to former parts of his life makes him even more human.
