Historia
The "Big Flash" granted every person on the planet their innermost wish. On that day, some people learned to fly, others became young again, beautiful, rich, or brilliant. But not all wishes were good. A super-hacker collapsed the world economy as other evil men and women were given the capacity to fulfill their darkest desires. As for Cindy Knight, her wish was simple. All she wanted was to be able to walk again, and to take revenge on the man who had put her in a wheelchair during a cowardly attack that killed her father.

Excellent story from start to finish.
Revisado: 01-08-20
Unique and fresh. Really enjoyed this book. Great flow and action with just the right amount of intense thrill to keep the earbuds blazing. Pete's writing style is VERY good. I usually don't see this level of writing in a first book unless its been vetted and honed through a large publishing giant. He kept the story moving along without letting it get bogged down with needless details and long winded narrative. The pacing was perfect. Kudos go out to his editor. Heather Masters did a SUPERB job with the performance as well. Her character voices really impressed me with lot's of personality and great acting. Wonderful cast of characters with a really well written villain. Every character seemed to have depth and nuance. Tyler was hilarious! His last line in the book had me laughing out loud. Definitely my favorite.

A gritty well written and overall excellent story!
Revisado: 08-15-17
What made the experience of listening to Deep in the Woods the most enjoyable?
For a story of this length I was surprised at how well the author put just enough detail into every scene to make me disappear into the story. Not a word was wasted. This could have easily been an hour long tale but Johnson did a fabulous job of trimming the fat and giving you and amazing story in such a short amount of time.
What other book might you compare Deep in the Woods to and why?
Reminded of well done scene from Mario Puzo's The Godfather. Perhaps a prequel or a side story.
Have you listened to any of Tom Jordan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is my first Tom Jordan audio but my interest is now piqued. His performance of the material was very well done.
If you could take any character from Deep in the Woods out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Uncle Willy. I'm sure he would have plenty of stories to tell over a nice five course meal.
Any additional comments?
The writing was very well done. The dialogue believable and honest. Every character, even the bit players, had their own style and feel. Tom Jordan did a superb job bringing this story to life

The life of a magician isn't all kiddie shows and card tricks. Sometimes it's murder. Especially when magician Eli Marks very publicly debunks a famed psychic, and said psychic ends up dead. The evidence, including a bloody King of Diamonds playing card (one from Eli's own Ambitious Card routine), directs the police right to Eli.

A mystery worth its weight in fun and suspense!
Revisado: 02-15-16
What made the experience of listening to The Ambitious Card the most enjoyable?
The story never slowed down. It's was quick, humorous, and didn't dilly dally in non-essential bits that didn't move the story forward.
What did you like best about this story?
The main character was very well developed. A quick witted everyday hero that felt like a real person, with real feelings, and reactions to the story's world.
What does Jim Cunningham bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jim is a fantastic narrator. He pulled the embedded humor right off the page, delivering a flawless performance. His ability to liven narrative passages as well as his superb dialogue and characterizations made the audio version stand on its own as a brilliant piece of performance art.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Without giving away any spoilers, every scene with the Uncle was performed so well that I immediately fell in love with the character. Especially the tarot reading.
Any additional comments?
Overall, this was a great listen and would recommend it to anyone that finds this genre interesting.
***I received this audiobook via Audioblast for free in return for my honest review and am quite happy to have found this gem that I may have otherwise overlooked.

Historia
James Stark, a.k.a. Sandman Slim, crawled out of Hell, took bloody revenge for his girlfriend’s murder, and saved the world along the way. After that, what do you do for an encore? You take a lousy job tracking down monsters for money. It’s a depressing gig, but it pays for your beer and cigarettes. But in L.A., things can always get worse. Like when Lucifer comes to town to supervise his movie biography and drafts Stark as his bodyguard.

Wicked humor, Nonstop Action, Remarkable Narration
Revisado: 11-24-15
What did you love best about Kill the Dead?
Kadrey's writing at its best. Such a fantastic roller coaster ride filled with gritty no nonsense, back talking, loveable monsters you can't help but root and cheer for. This is pure brilliance. Macleod Andrews's performance is top notch, bringing Kadrey's cast of wicked do gooders jumping off the page.
What other book might you compare Kill the Dead to and why?
I wish it had an equal, because I'd be gobbling that one up to. This is a truly unique take on heaven & hell, God and Lucifer, Angels, Hellions, Demons, and Zombies. What Harry Potter did for Fantasy, Sandman Slim does for Noir Gritty Macabre Pulp Fiction.
What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Macleod Andrews brings everything to the table in the Sandman Slim series. He gives every character a nuance and unique voice, his versatility and acting is pure brilliance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Too many moving moments to list without spoiling this fantastic story.
Any additional comments?
I would be utterly shocked and amazed if one of the big networks or studios doesn't pick up this series for the long haul.

In Sandman Slim Stark came back from hell for revenge. Once again all is not right in L.A. Lucifer is back in Heaven, God is on vacation, and an insane killer mounts a war against both Heaven and Hell. Stark’s got to head back down to his old stomping grounds in Hell to rescue his long lost love, stop an insane serial killer, prevent both Good and Evil from completely destroying each other, and stop the demonic Kissi from ruining the party for everyone. Even for Sandman Slim, that’s a tall order. And it’s only the beginning.

A sick, twisted, and wildly fun roller coaster ride of a story!!!
Revisado: 11-13-15
I can't say I dislike anything about this book. It's full on Kadrey at its best. Smart, witty, sarcastic, cynical. Makes me appreciate the art of a good metaphor once again. Macleod Andrews, as always, gave his all in the performance. He gave depth to every character in the book and let me just say, I can't imagine where he went in his mind to come up with that perfect voice for Jack.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Can't say enough.
Revisado: 10-21-15
What did you love best about Zero World?
The writing was very well done, the story veered this way and that, then twisted far from where I thought it was going, like riding up a mountain on a series of switchbacks. The narrator was superb in bringing this book to life.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Caswell was a very intriguing character, but I had such a great time listening to Melnee, the narrator such a superb job finding her rhythm and voice.
Which scene was your favorite?
I'd rather not say, I don't want to give any spoilers away for future readers. But, I will say it was in the last third of the book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yep. Again. Spoilers!! You'll have to read the book. I'm sure we will all agree how moving the end of this book is.
Any additional comments?
Already listened to it twice. Excellent choice. This was actually a recommendation from well known author Pierce Brown, and I'm very thankful. Great story, start to finish.

Truly Amazing series. Extremel well crafted story.
Revisado: 06-04-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Golden Son to be better than the print version?
No. Both are equally as good. The audio book's narrator giving his own take on the voices of the characters and scenery is well worth the listen. A very gifted actor that brings these stories to life. But, there is nothing quite like reading a book, and envisioning it in your own mind, turning those pages with your own fingers, anticipating what will happen on the next page and beyond.
What did you like best about this story?
The depth of the characters. They felt so real and well established. I truly hated some, and loved others. I sympathized with their plight and feared for their safety and sanity alike.
What about Tim Gerard Reynolds’s performance did you like?
His reading breathed a life into this story that I didn't think was possible. It was as if he really was Darrow, really narrating his own story. He had me from the first paragraph and never let go.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh yes, but, at the same time, I wanted it to go on forever.
Any additional comments?
Pierce Brown is an author I'll be following avidly in the future. I don't reread many books, there are far too many good stories in the world, but this series is definitely one of those that I'll be coming back to again and again.
