It had been more than 35 years since last I read Salem's Lot. A post on Reddit gave me the idea to refresh my memories before the film is released on Max this autumn. I'm so glad I did. Mr. King is my favorite storyteller & Mr. Ron McLarty narrates the tale beautifully.

Loved it! Felt like these were "normal" people!

Fantastic selection for the narrator. Great, fast paced story. Not bogged down with hours of overly complex political history. Relatable main character & realistic interactions. Avoids the interpersonal clichés that knock me right out of a book.
I enjoy science fiction, but so many highly recommend authors focus on how tight/short the clothing is on curvy, one dimensional, female "characters" & the detailed innermost desires of the tough guy/shy guy/brilliant guy.
I'm about to start on book 2!

Great Story Awesome Narrator!

My daughter & I love the Discovery stories. We are all up to date on the first 2 seasons of the show & have been listening to the audiobooks to fill in backstory and keep occupied until season 3. We connect with the main characters & have been especially moved by the story of Stamets and Culber. This book really kept us enthralled and added a fantastic new depth to what we thought we already knew. Also - the narrator is absolutely amazing at capturing the speaking patterns of the individual characters. We could easily discern which character was speaking by both the writer's choice of wording (also excellent!) and the narrator's pacing. Perfect all the way through!

(Audible version) I wanted to find this book as helpful as so many other reviewers seemed to. but I've made it into chapter 3 and I'm setting it aside. The first two chapters focused on the author's jewelry businesses, deciding on the lifestyle you want to live, and how important it is to try it out. I'm not interested in living on a sail boat, I'm interested in building a career from my art. I felt like, after listening for almost an hour, I should have discovered some business advice. Instead, she is still going over the importance of believing in yourself. Not the marketing & financial guide I expected. I wish I could get that Audible credit back.
