Historia
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

Great little book! Straight forward and to the point.
Revisado: 09-27-22
Gosh, I’ve never felt so much pressure to give an honest review as I do after finishing this book. ;)
I love how straightforward and to the point this book is. I also enjoyed the questions that he answered at the end. Five stars!

Historia
"To inherit a great fortune. To inherit a great misfortune." These words, from Nathaniel Hawthorne's notebook, neatly encapsulate the theme of The House of the Seven Gables - that of a family whose fortunes are poisoned by its past misdeeds. The sins of the Pyncheon father are visited upon his children over a period of several generations, until such time as one of his descendants unites with a member of the family he has wronged. Love conquers hate, and new blood washes away the original crime.

I absolutely love this story and have read the book 3 times. The narrator of this audio version is perfect and I actually prefer to listen to the book over reading it, because of his narration. Finishing it makes want to go visit The House of the Seven Gables again, too!

Historia
In 1692, Bridget Bishop was hanged as a witch. Two hundred years later, her legacy lives on in the scions of two very different lines: one dedicated to using their powers to heal and help women in need; the other, determined to grasp power for themselves by whatever means necessary. This clash will play out in the fate of Annis, a young woman in Gilded Age New York who finds herself a pawn in the family struggle for supremacy. She'll need to claim her own power to save herself - and resist succumbing to the darkness that threatens to overcome them all.

Cute story. Narration was... interesting.
Revisado: 08-11-20
I enjoyed the story. Even though was pretty predictable, it was fun and cute and kept me going.
The narrator has such a lovely voice, so it was strange to hear her interpretation of some of the characters... Especially the American characters. It was really hard to get past those weird nasally voices while listening, but it made for some good laughs while I was in here listening by myself 😁

Historia
Connie's mother asks her to sell an abandoned house once owned by her grandmother in Salem, Mass. Relunctantly, Connie moves to the small town and inhabits the crumbling, ancient house, trying to restore it to a semblance of order. Curious things start to happen when Connie finds the name "Deliverance Dane" on a yellowed scrap of paper and begins to have visions of a long ago woman condemned for practicing "physick," or herbal healing, on her neighbors in 1690s Salem.

Loved it!
Revisado: 09-26-19
Like the author, I have two ancestors who were tried as witches in the Salem Witch Trials, so I really connected with this story. I loved the way it covered both the (mostly historical) 1692 incidents and the (fictional) current happenings involving a descendant. I thought it was really well done!

Great story. Funny narration.
Revisado: 05-10-19
The narrator was very, almost robotically, clear with her American English pronunciation... To the point that it was actually distracting and a bit comical.
But it’s a fabulous story and I would recommend this book to anyone interested in historical fiction, even if the main characters weren’t their ancestors like they were mine :) Maybe try the paper copy if narration performance is important to you.

Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Through an exploration into the nature of the wild woman archetype, Dr. Estes helps listeners rediscover and free their own wild nature.

More than half this incredible book is missing in this audio version! I didn’t realize, until it was suddenly over. So disappointing. If I hadn’t read the actual book years ago I wouldn’t have known that this wasn’t all of it. This audio version is not a good representation of the actual book.

One detail ruined it all
Revisado: 05-24-18
I really enjoyed this series and thought that this one was performed especially well by the narrator. I liked the characters and I felt invested in their story. But gosh, (SPOILER!) with all of the build up to what the demon's name would be, I expected something that was well researched and, well, demon-like. When I heard the name revealed as Cernunnos, I actually gasped. Are you kidding me? For someone who has obviously done her research on all things witchy and pagan, why on earth would Nora Roberts choose Cernunnos, the Celtic god of the forest, for the name of the demon? VERY disappointing and downright offensive. I probably won't be reading any books by this author again.

Historia
With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses.

I enjoyed this story and will continue on to the next of the series. I try to throw in a fun fictional book every couple of months or so, between my podcast listening, and this was the perfect easy, light and playful story to listen to.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

Disappointed
Revisado: 12-06-17
This book was recommended to me by many people after I fell in love with “IT”, so I had high expectations. Sadly, I was disappointed. The story wasn’t bad, it just seemed very forced and heavy handed... I imagine if Stephen King had written the story with a pencil, he probably ripped through the paper and broke a lot of lead. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

Space for a big garden. Fruit trees. A huge barn. A deck with an amazing view. The blackberry-infested property on the hill seemed to have limitless potential. When Tammy Owen moved from the city to a five-acre farm, she hoped to learn how to live closer to the land. What she learned instead was a lot about life.

Story of my life!
Revisado: 06-08-17
Wow, it was crazy listening to this story and feeling like I was listening to a well written version of my own story. I absolutely enjoyed this book. I could relate to so much of it that it was uncanny. I love the author's style and the narrator did such a great job. I would recommend this book. It is unlike my usual choice of book genres but I truly enjoyed it.
