Historia
America is famous around the world for being the land of opportunity, and in many respects it has been for the nearly 400 years since its colonization. However, that opportunity has always come at some sort of price. In the times of wooden sailing vessels, men and women risked life and limb to sail across the Atlantic on small, creaking ships, but later, transportation became safer and easier with the invention of the coal powered steam engine.

Pretty good overview

This was a fairly good sampling of what went on in the Coal Wars. The narrator’s pronunciation of Matewan was a bit silly, but otherwise good narration.

Historia
In 1851, Father Jean Marie Latour comes to serve as the Apostolic Vicar to New Mexico. What he finds is a vast territory of red hills and tortuous arroyos, American by law but Mexican and Indian in custom and belief. In the almost forty years that follow, Latour spreads his faith in the only way he knows—gently, all the while contending with an unforgiving landscape, derelict and sometimes openly rebellious priests, and his own loneliness. Out of these events, Cather gives us an indelible vision of life unfolding in a place where time itself seems suspended.

Often called the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace is at once an epic of the Napoleonic wars, a philosophical study, and a celebration of the Russian spirit. Tolstoy's genius is clearly seen in the multitude of characters in this massive chronicle, all of them fully realized and equally memorable.

Excellent telling of epic story

I absolutely loved this fabulously rich and elaborate story. The narration is excellent and is well-suited to the context and setting of the tale. I recommend printing out one of the helpful charts (available via Google) of the military persons to best follow the generals and their retinues. This audiobook is a jewel.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

It was a time when anything seemed possible, instant wealth, glittering fame, fabulous luxury, and for a run of magical weeks in the spring and summer of 1920, Charles Ponzi made it all come true. Promising to double investors' money in three months, the dapper, charming Ponzi raised the "rob Peter to pay Paul" scam to an art form and raked in millions at his office in downtown Boston.

If you're looking for a get-rich-quick scheme, I'm sorry to disappoint but the short term rental business isn’t it. This is going to require time and energy to invest - yet it can be very rewarding. This is the reason why hosts who once listed their room or property on Airbnb, VRBO, or Booking.com - they never go back to long Term rentals. Why? It’s simple - short term rentals make you more money. The contents of this audiobook will certainly give you a competitive edge compare to those staring out unprepared.

Really nice book
Revisado: 02-14-21
This is a nice, mellow book with interesting characters. I am a perennial beginner knitter and really enjoyed the knitting as vehicle for the story. The narration was lovely, as well. I have to note that the audio production engineering of the book is really poor, however. Listening along, one is abruptly slapped in the face with “Chapter 7” or “Part 4” as the ending of the sentence before... sometimes making a compound word with the last word of the previous chapter. No pause, no heartbeat, not even a brief close with the period of the last sentence. It was quite a grating shock every time. Certainly not the fault of the narrator author of this nice story, but didn’t anyone listen to the audio before it was published?
