Too many things happening

What would have made 16 Lighthouse Road better?
Basically the book was OK and the narrator did a good job, BUT there is way too much happening. There are too many characters, with way too many events to follow. I normally have no trouble following various charaters throughout a storyline even if a little complicated, but in this book I kept finding myself thinking who was that again?
