Modern Witchy Tale
Revisado: 05-04-22
This is a unique and enthralling modern witchy story. It took me a while to get into but once I did I was enthralled and didn't want to stop listening until the end. It is very well written with a great storyline. The author paints the two protagonists beautifully, and even managed to make me warm to Frieda by the end. The settings are also very well described enabling me to picture them in my mind as I listened.
I wasn't keen on the narration. I think this is part of the reason it took me a while to get into the book. It would have helped if the narrator had used different voices for the women so that it was easier to know who was talking.

Historia
When DCI Will Blake is called to investigate a blood-drenched gravestone, the evidence leads to Trevor Long, local paranormal investigator, self-styled medium, and conspiracy theorist. Long vanished while he was investigating the mysterious, axe-wielding Sons of Sol, worshippers of the Viking sun goddess. But Long’s life, like his death, is far from straightforward, and Blake’s team is drawn into a deadly game.

Another great book in this series
Revisado: 04-01-21
DI Will Blake has his work cut out this time as he tries to solve a murder with no body. Plus his cat, Seraphina, has gone missing!
This is another great book in the series and I was totally engrossed right from the start. The plot is complex and well written with many twists and turns and a host of interesting characters, including an axe throwing Viking called Thor! There is also some humour which made me laugh out loud a few times. I love Will Blake because he is so realistic, and his character is further developed in this book. We meet his brother and also find out more about his mother's disappearance. We also get to know the team a little better. I'm not sure about Will's girlfriend, Laura, though, as I just find her a bit boring and irritating! I prefer the cat and was totally invested in Will's search for her :-)
The narrator, Owen Welsh, is perfect for this series and I love that his accent is authentic to the area (the Wirral). He does the voices for the different characters well, making it easy to know who is speaking.

This series just gets better!
Revisado: 03-17-21
Will Blake is back and this time he is investigating a strange case where a victim is found murdered in a house where the owners have been away on holiday. He is named The Scissor Man and it appears that he might be fixated on Will.
The book is fast paced, dark and grisly, well crafted and I became so absorbed that I listened in one day! I actually preferred this to the first book in the series. Will Blake is such an interesting character, and in this book we discovered a little more about how his mother went missing, and I think the story will continue in future books in the series. I was pleased to see that Seraphina the cat is still in residence, though I did fear for her safety at one point in the book! Really looking forward to seeing what Book 3 brings :-)
The narration by Owen Welsh was great. I always enjoy listening to a book read by a narrator with an authentic accent for the books location.

Understanding how a dog's mind works
Revisado: 08-21-20
I started listening to this book along with my own three dogs, Alfie, Pixie and Gracie, with a little trepidation. My main genre is crime thrillers and I am used to reading about torture and murder etc, but if a book describes animal cruelty I am in bits. There is a warning at the beginning of the book, but I listened anyway.
The book is the story of Jacob, a border collie, who has a bad start in life, and is told in his own words. Happily, Jacob then finds a good home and learns what it is like to be loved. The book is informative and heartwarming. I loved the poem at the end. Anyone thinking of buying a dog or puppy should read/listen. I certainly got a better understanding of how a dog thinks.
This is a fairly short listen (just short of 2 1/2 hours) and the narrator does an amazing job as Jacob's voice.
