Spoiler Free

I'll admit if your politics skew anywhere to the left this might not be the book for you. The authors are nowhere near as on the nose as say Ben Shapiro in his infamous True Allegiance but the plot edges on conservative wish fulfillment or worst nightmares realized. President Sachs is clearly president Trump and its hard not to see Marshal Tate (Tito ref is cute but you get my point) as Joe Biden. The authors put a disclaimer starting in book two but my poin stands.

All that said the series has some great military scenes but it didn't get particularly good till book three. If, like me, you can turn off your brain and enjoy a good military thriller, and some borderline so bad it's good political analysis, it's more than worth your time by book three.

The worst audiobook I've bought...

If you enjoy Tom Clancy style books, or the politics of Ayn Rand, this book is still a waste of time. General Brett Hawthorne might as well be called Gary Stew, and anyone that isn't objectivist in value and conservative in politics (barring a single token character) is portrayed as a hilariously straw manned buffoon.

It lacks the careful research of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, and it lacks any nuance or subtlety that would make it a compelling political essay. If you want to see a world in which America is broken by internal forces of politics, pick up Joe Steel, unlike Ben Shapiro, Harry Turtledove can right complex characters that aren't painful stereotypes.

Even the dialogue is painful!

That said, the narrator gives it his all.

An audiobook which in spite of its crushing length is well worth both the time and the reread. Not only is Steven King at his best though perhaps not darkest, but the single voice actor has impressive range and the audio quality is excellent. I highly recommend this to Steven King fans, Christian readers, and fans of disaster flicks alike.
