Lovely short story and good starting point
Revisado: 01-16-20
A lovely story about Suri and Minna. A good starting point into The Legends of the First Empire, although it has additional value if you are familiar with the series.

Historia
Mary Robinette Kowal continues the grand sweep of alternate history begun in The Calculating Stars. The Fated Sky looks forward to 1961, when mankind is well established on the moon and looking forward to its next step: journeying to, and eventually colonizing, Mars. Of course the noted Lady Astronaut Elma York would like to go, but there’s a lot riding on whoever the International Aerospace Coalition decides to send on this historic - but potentially very dangerous - mission. Could Elma really leave behind her husband and the chance to start a family to spend several years traveling to Mars?

Our intrepid adventurers continue their travel towards Mars.
After falling in love so hard with The Calculating Stars, I was a little bit afraid about its continuation. Now, I'm not only in love with its successor, but with the whole series!
I would also like to mention how Mary Robinette has made me sympathize with a character I profoundly disliked in the previous book. A terrific example of first person narration and its effects towards how readers' perception of the characters are influenced by the main character's perception of them.

Historia
When Jack becomes the captain on a trip to the center of the universe to investigate how the cosmos all started, it seems straightforward enough. But tensions rise among the team's lead scientist and engineer. Then suddenly, they become uncertain of whether they'll ever come back from their mission. This uncertainty may undermine the operation. But if they fail to find the answers they seek, the universe may cease to exist, along with humanity and all other life forms.

Neither bad not good enough
Revisado: 06-18-19
Disclaimer: I received a promotional copy in exchange for a honest review.
The premise of the story--a spacial research trip to find the answer of the universe--sound interesting, but the execution is not done well enough. My main concern is that the story is too short for what it aims, leaving not enough place for building the setting or getting to know the cast of characters.
Performance was okay. However, the audio production was really bad. It sounded more like an amateur production with a minimal knowledge about sound editing.

Historia
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

I just fell in love
Revisado: 06-03-19
I'm finding it hard to describe this masterpiece. Saying that it has a very interesting setting, an awesome cast of characters and a great portrayal of anxiety and how hard it was for women in the 50s; is simply not enough. All I can say is that I completely fell in love, and that it's definitively going into my favorite books.
Also, listening to the audio book version--narrated by Mary Robinette herself--it's a delight.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Political intrigues in outer space
Revisado: 04-03-19
This series has a very interesting "worldbuilding"--more like "univerbuilding"--with a comercial system based on the ocean currents commerce from our history, and what would happen if those currents suddenly disappear.
As always, Wil's narration is a delight.

Historia
Hilketa is a frenetic and violent pastime where players attack each other with swords and hammers. The main goal of the game: obtain your opponent's head and carry it through the goalposts. With flesh and bone bodies, a sport like this would be impossible. But all the players are "threeps", robot-like bodies controlled by people with Haden's Syndrome, so anything goes. No one gets hurt, but the brutality is real, and the crowds love it. Until a star athlete drops dead on the playing field.
