Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

I forgot how stupid some parts could be
Revisado: 04-27-24
Some of its libertarian commentary is so stupid that it takes you out of the story. And it’s not necessary for moving the plot forward. A decent editor could have fixed that. Respect the reader, NS.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

Like an updated Asimov with better narration
Revisado: 02-27-24
So many times I thought of Foundation series while listening. This story is good in its own right, and of course more natural dialogue. Wil Wheaten’s narration here is very good.

Historia
Tadhg Hynes, a Dubliner, narrates James Joyce's revolutionary masterpiece. Hynes says, "Don't be put off by its reputation. You don't need a university degree (though some like to think that you do!). It's a book for everyone, and as you become familiar with the way Joyce writes, this becomes obvious. I've tried to bring out the Dublin wit and the unique language of its people, and I hope that this adds to the enjoyment of this great book."

I can’t even with this book. Boring, boring, boring. I have a degree in eng lit, have slugged thru some of the most boring writing during law school. This book is insufferable.

Historia
History is written by the victors; but when you've been fighting your fellow patriots, your own brothers and sisters, does anyone really win? A harrowing gut-punch of a novel, Afterwar tells the story of a dark future where America has been devastated by a second civil war. As the fighting draws to a close, the camps are liberated, the fascist regime crumbles and the work of rebuilding begins. But can a population that's spent years divided and hell-bent on victory at any cost ever be truly reunited?

Good story, cld use a good copy editor

Story was good, certainly timely. Writing was good but could have been tightened up *a little* in terms of style.

These characters are great, and the storyline is twisty and interesting. I laughed, but I also cried and not only over the most obvious plot line. Osman’s writing just keeps getting better. Also, the narrator Fiona Shaw is so talented. Just a joy!

Historia
In a remote corner of the Chickasaw Nation, tribal Lighthorse policeman Bill Maytubby and county deputy Hannah Bond discover the buzzard-ravaged body of Majesty Tate, a young drifter with a blank past. They comb Oklahoma's rock prairie, river bottoms, and hard-bitten small towns for traces of her last days. Tate was seen dancing with Austin Love, a violent local meth dealer fresh out of prison. An Oklahoma City motel clerk connects her with an aspiring politician. An oil-patch roustabout and a shady itinerant preacher provide dubious leads.

Narrator great. Story great. Characters GREAT. Writing great. Kris Lackey writes wonderful, atmospheric modern western police — what would you call them? Procedural? That’s not the right word. These books are not to be missed.
