Historia
When you are a member of Britain’s first team of wizard spies, every mission might be your last. But as the dawning of the 20th century draws ever nearer, magic grows weak. Violectric Dampening, the clash of man-made electricity with the gifts of magekind, threatens M.I.’s existence. And if that isn’t enough, they’ve now been discharged from their own government. Obsolete. Distrusted. And now hunted by one of their own.

Victorian era magical spies
Revisado: 08-04-21
This story is a good start to a series about mages who are also spies. The characters are interesting and the storyline is good. The end of the book was a great jumping-off spot to start a second book. The narration was very good, and each character had a distinct voice. While I do think this is a really good book, I had a hard time getting into it because I am not a fan of steampunk or the overly wordy Victorianesque speech. If you are a fan of this type of story I would highly recommend this book.

Passive Income, a lot to think about
Revisado: 05-19-21
This audiobook is a comprehensive list of ways to make money without a huge amount of effort or overhead. I already knew about a lot of them, but there were quite a few things that I had never thought of. There is no in-depth coverage of any of the money-making ideas, but enough to give you an idea of what's involved and where to start. I was surprised at some of the topics and will be looking into them myself. After listening to the audiobook I will also be getting the Kindle edition so I can easily refer back to subjects I am interested in.

Nice Captain Craven
Revisado: 02-03-21
For a swashbuckling ne'er-do-well, Captain Craven was awfully nice and polite. Even though, or maybe because, every fight was described in such detail it kind of took the excitement out of them. Actually, everything was described in great detail, down to the fullers on the swords. I definitely know a lot more about the weaponry of the time now. The story was ok, with a good plot, but maybe not as fast moving and gritty as I usually like. The narration was good, and I could recognize each of the main characters with no problem. Historia
Long before Oscar Diggs' balloon carried him off from the county fair to his destiny as a humbug wizard or a twister turned Dorothy Gale's farmhouse into a flying merry-go-round, Oz groaned under the tyranny of the Wicked Witches...the witches and their great enemy, Glinda the Good. For Glinda, nothing was more important than the destruction of the Wicked Witches. She was willing to pay any price to win her private war with the witches, even if that price was the life of an innocent girl.

Good
Revisado: 02-03-21
Listening to Good: Glinda the Good and the Plot Against the Wicked Witch of the North was like having your grandpa read you a story, and that is a good thing. Even though it is not the type of story I usually read, it was a nice prequel with a strong message about the nature of being good.
The recording did have an annoying hiss, but I was able to listen if I kept it turned down a little.

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

Exactly what I needed
Revisado: 01-29-21
This book has changed my whole view of decluttering. Dana White doesn't try to get in your head and tell you why you're messy, or why you keep too much stuff. She just tells you how to get rid of what you don't need and control what you keep. I've started using her method for decluttering, and I can see the progress I've made immediately. That makes you want to keep going. Listening to a book narrated by the author can sometimes be pretty painful, but Dana White is just great. I recommend this book to anyone who has a huge clutter problem or just needs direction in getting rid of accumulated stuff.

Historia
Often compared to both Ruth Rendell and P.D. James, Deborah Crombie is internationally acclaimed for her deftly written mysteries that combine suspense, with lyrical prose. Sharply etched characters further enrich this story of tangled relationships and dark secrets. Twelve years after their divorce, Scotland Yard Superintendent Duncan Kincaid receives a phone call from his ex-wife Victoria asking for his help.

Good book, wrong narrator.
Revisado: 04-19-13
What did you like best about Dreaming of the Bones? What did you like least?
I enjoyed the first four books in this series very much, and was anticipating another great book, but I'm not sure about this one. Although I did like this story and characters, I had a really hard time getting past the voice of the narrator. I almost gave up listening until I found that if I double the speed on my ipod, it made Jenny Sterlin sound pretty normal. I think I will have to reserve judgement on the book until I get a copy from the library and read it myself.

Historia
A woman has vanished while digging a dinosaur bone bed in the remote wilderness of Canada. Somehow, the only evidence has made its way to the inbox of Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, over 2,000 miles away, in Boston. She has no idea why. But as events unfold with alarming speed, Scarpetta begins to suspect that the paleontologist's disappearance is connected to a series of crimes - much closer to home: a gruesome murder, inexplicable tortures, and trace evidence from the last living creatures of the dinosaur age.

The Bone Bed . . . very disappointing.
Revisado: 11-22-12
What disappointed you about The Bone Bed?
I loved the earlier Kay Scarpetta novels, but have not enjoyed the last couple. This one was just awful. It was just all over the place, and never really fleshed anything out completely. There was too much about Kay's feelings, and not enough about the other characters, and how they related to the plot. Lucy seemed a little more human this time, but poor Marino ends up looking stupid, as always. I had to listen to some of the last parts again to see if I missed something, or if it really was that dumb.
Has The Bone Bed turned you off from other books in this genre?
This hasn't turned me off from other books in this genre, but definitely turned me off from Patricia Cornwell.
What didn’t you like about Kate Reading’s performance?
The narration was awful. She makes Kay and Lucy sound like robots, and her male voices are just silly.
