Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

If You Like Podcasts...
Revisado: 07-14-24
This book might be for you. I've heard good things about this book and maybe the written version was good, but the constant interruptions in each chapter for a podcast-like interview of the section you just listened to really takes away from the story. I personally don't like podcasts because of the unscripted nature; it takes a long time to deliver very little value. Save the interview and commentary for a section at the end of the book once people have had a chance to listen to the story, and if they care enough about it, they can listen to the interview for more context.

Rehashing Ideas, Not Bad
Revisado: 07-16-23
If you read or listen to business management books you've heard everything in this book already. Many chapters reference the original works where the ideas being discussed were taken from. If you don't listen to a lot of business books or you are just entering the world of running a start-up business this can be a good introduction and lead you to other authors you may want to look into.

A Different Win
Revisado: 06-28-21
I am a huge fan of Relentless, it is a standard in my listening repertoire and I have easily listened to it over 50 times. It took some effort for me to get into Winning simply because it is different, but also familiar. It is a fantastic book and now that I have finished it I would define the difference between the two as this: Relentless is motivation, Winning is focus... unless Mr. Grover is asking for my definition of winning, in that case my answer is "pain."

Historia
Have you or your colleagues ever worked hard on something, only to find out you were focusing on the wrong problem entirely? Most people have. In a survey, 85 percent of companies said they often struggle to solve the right problems. The consequences are severe: Leaders fight the wrong strategic battles. Teams spend their energy on low-impact work. Startups build products that nobody wants. Organizations implement “solutions” that somehow make things worse, not better. Everywhere you look, the waste is staggering.

Reframing Tactics
Revisado: 08-14-20
I decided to pickup this book based on a brief mention in Trillion Dollar Coach and I am glad that I did. I work with small business owners to help solve problems and picked up several new ideas and approaches. It was refreshing to me to be challenged to think several times during a listen. Often times I am asking my own questions to consider as I listen to a book but somehow felt more engaged listening to this. I typically only give a star rating but felt this book deserves more reviews. Recommended

What Mindfulness Isn't
Revisado: 12-03-19
I write this review after trying to listen to the 3rd lecture for the 3rd time... it is difficult to listen to a lecturer talk about what something is not. You can talk endlessly about what things are not. He then proceeds to generalize the entire western world and how they incorrectly view mindfulness. This struck me as one of the author's filler lectures, something you put together to have enough hours for a college credit course. Once I was ready to give up going through the course in sequential order, I jumped to some later chapters to see if there was something worth powering through it and found more of the same sweeping generalities and personal anecdotes. I will be returning this series, and based on my experience I suspect it would be more like a 3-4 hour book if it wasn't trying to hit qualifying metrics for The Great Courses... it would be even shorter if the lecturer spoke at a normal speed. Listening to this book on 1X speed literally sounds like it is in slow-motion. I listen to most books at 1.25X and this was the only book I had to listen at 1.5X.
