Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Long, but deeply moving.
Revisado: 12-15-24
This is my first time listening to an audiobook of this length. It was beautiful complex and deeply moving. My only complaint is the structure. It has been broken into sections, some of which are longer than eight hours. Having chapters, even if only for the audio version Would have really helped make it more digestible and easier to navigate.
Nevertheless, I am grateful to have listened to it. It was such an emotional ride. It forces us to consider what is the very nature of humanity, of love and of fear. Altogether comments to the story that explores the full range of what humanity can be now and in the future. I believe this is example of what good fiction should be

Historia
Sharp-tongued (and secretly soft-hearted) Kiki Banjo has just made a huge mistake. As an expert in relationship-evasion and the host of the popular student radio show Brown Sugar, she’s made it her mission to make sure the women of the African-Caribbean Society at Whitewell University do not fall into the mess of “situationships”, players, and heartbreak. But when the Queen of the Unbothered kisses Malakai Korede, the guy she just publicly denounced as “The Wastemen of Whitewell,” in front of every Blackwellian on campus, she finds her show on the brink.

An unexpected delight
Revisado: 08-25-24
I began reading this book as a comp title to assist with a project, fully expecting to stop after Chapter 1. Three days later, I was on chapter 11 and raving to friends and colleagues about how this witty, funny, detestably delectable book snatched my attention and held it in a vice grip. I listened while cleaning and shopping, in between work, while driving, anxious to reach what I was sure would be a satisfying end yet unwilling to cheat myself by rushing or skipping. From the masterful performance to the clever, vivid, and enchanting prose—to the way the characters perfectly depicted “us,” the readers, grappling with our truest selves and what it means to love until, at last, we are forced to believe in it, to hope and cheer for it—I can say this delicious surprise of a book is everything I love about fiction.

A strong sequel with lots of suspense.
Revisado: 06-27-24
This second book in the series is a strong follow-up to its predecessor. Meeting the main characters deep in the middle of a plot, this book keeps you guessing at what will happen next. Beyond that, this book models what concepts like friendship and allyship could look like. This is actually a double-edged sword as I often wondered if certain dialogue wasn’t written just to “teach” the audience and some character choices are a little more thoughtful/mature than you would expect to find in the real world. But as far as criticisms go, I’d be a proud author if the only “flaw” was that I gave my protagonist really good friends.
Well done. ;)

Well-crafted, interesting concepts, solid story, great acting. This is a book I would read again and recommend. It is nit to he most complex if stories, but it kept me engaged and surprised. I will purchase the sequels.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

An Elegant and Evocative Story!
Revisado: 01-02-23
This is easily one of my favorite books and one I wish I had read much sooner. Written in plain language, this story is anything but plain as it carries us through the highs and lows of a the very human search for fulfillment. Every so often a book appears that just captures me and this one was it for 2022. And I would be remiss not to praise the PHENOMENAL voice acting. I used to avoid audiobooks because of the droll, baritone narrators. This narrator was lively and emotive and made me believe in the characters. Well-done. I now own the hardcover and audio for this one.
