Historia
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

Perfect for audio
Revisado: 03-08-23
Some books are meant for audio. This is one. Lots of action, different characters, differing viewpoints. With audio , I find long sequences of internal musings from an omniscient POV to be boring and tedious, even if it’s an author I like. This was very entertaining and the varied voice actors were so excellent, really exceptional. Highly recommend for an atmospheric who done it !

Historia
When young widow Éilis Lawlor disappears in the middle of the night, with her two little children asleep in their beds, it is a chilling case for Detective Lottie Parker. Since her husband’s tragic death, Éilis is all her children have, and when Lottie sees Éilis’ house keys and phone still lying on the kitchen counter, she is terrified for the vulnerable mother’s safety. Then Éilis’ broken body is found by a nearby lake, wrapped in an unfamiliar yellow dress, her mouth sealed with duct tape–and Lottie’s worst fears are confirmed. Someone wanted this beautiful widow dead.

Gorier than usual
Revisado: 02-21-23
I’ve read all of Patricia Gibney’s Lottie Parker mysteries and I thought this one was good, perhaps not as good plot wise as her earlier work, though. Love the characters, especially Lottie, and the down to earth people of Ragmullin. The storyline suffered from too many forced twists, and the torture stuff was too much and frankly pointless, just there for the sadists I guess (joke). Still worth reading especially for those us who are fans.

Historia
Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd. After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

Enjoyable
Revisado: 01-18-23
Quite an enjoyable listen. Lots of twists I didn’t see or predict. I am from Tucson AZ, and while the voice actor did a great job, she may want to work on her American accents. People who are from the West do not have mid Atlantic or posh Manhattan accents. Lol. Esther was the worst…Es-tah would be at home in the upper East Side NY, Es-ter would be from Tucson. The Oklahoma-ish accent of the villain was decent though. Aside from that narrative and plot were great.

Historia
Liv has a lot of secrets. For her, home is the picturesque town of Ålesund, perched on a fjord in western Norway. One night, in the early-morning embers of a great party in the basement apartment she shares with two friends, Liv is watching TV, high on weed, and sees a python on an Australian nature show. She becomes obsessed with the idea of buying a snake as a pet. Soon Nero, the Burmese python, becomes the apartment's fourth roommate. As Liv bonds with Nero, she feels extremely protective, like a caring mother, and she is struck by a desire that surprises her with its intensity.

Enthralling
Revisado: 01-14-23
Took a chance on an unknown author. So worth it! This was a perfect book for audio. The voice actor was absolutely wonderful, the various plot threads kept me enthralled and the author’s exploration of interspecies relationships was amusing and rather kinky. The only flaw? I wanted to know Nero’s fate.

Historia
Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

Clever and enjoyable
Revisado: 11-19-22
A feminist (adjacent) tale of the inimitable Lydia of Pride and Prejudice fame. Austen’s novels have been done to death, IMO, and I haven’t been interested in them since 8th grade. This however, is a charming and wickedly funny little story. Retrieving her whoremonger husband from a brothel opens the story, and it is naughty and poignant by turns. Liked the guitar riffs and jarring rock music as a counterpoint to this ironic and clever piece. Love Jessie Buckley as the titular Lydia, and all other actors do a fine job. Enjoy

Disappointing let down
Revisado: 11-19-22
I have to say Ellie Griffiths is a favorite author of mine. I’ve read all the Ruth Galloway books, and think of Ruth as an old friend. I bought a credit so I could listen to Bleeding Heart Yard on a long car trip and stopped listening half way through. The only characters I found appealing were Harbinder and Meta. Way way too much reminiscing from dull, unlikeable Cassie, Anna and Chris. The “murder mystery” was solved by deus ex machina to provide a facile happy ending. I had to speed it up and only listen to Harbinder sections and then the epilogue to get through it. A disappointing let down from one of my favored authors. Hope the next one is better!

Historia
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

I can’t return this now, so I’m trying so hard to listen to this asinine novel. I’ve read other Ruth Ware novels, and I can’t believe I wasted a credit on this. Just not good. Silly ridiculous crap. I keep hoping April will be strangled soon because she deserves it, and I hate her voice.

Historia
Cat lives in Los Angeles, far from 36 Westeryk Road, the imposing gothic house in Edinburgh where she and her estranged twin sister, El, grew up. As kids, they invented Mirrorland, a dark, imaginary place under the pantry stairs, full of pirates, witches, and clowns. These days, Cat rarely thinks about their childhood home, or the fact that El now lives there with her husband, Ross. But when El mysteriously disappears after going out on her sailboat, Cat is forced to return to 36 Westeryk Road, which hasn’t changed in twenty years.

Revisado: 06-08-22
Nicely written, but at least twice as long as it should have been. Lovely narration but the extremely slow pace and lack of movement forward killed it for me. I finally gave up. Lengthy, tedious descriptions of childhood fantasies were annoying and boring, and should have been pruned to a few sentences. I still don’t know what the big trauma was and that was the heart of the book, but I’m ok with shutting the door on this one. Not ok with wasting a credit but audible won’t let me return the book.

Revisado: 05-14-22
I really enjoy Lisa Jewel and have read many of her books, but I just could not get into this one. I could see where it was going from the first chapter (and the title) and that’s fine, however I have found that some novels are more suited to reading than listening…this was one of them. The narrator was excellent, the story was intriguing for a few chapters, but when I started reading Twitter and Reddit posts while listening I threw in the towel. Too much. Maybe I’ll check it out from the library.
