Historia
Jack Atlas, self-proclaimed 'World's Best Assassin', had a simple plan: retire in style and marry the girl of his dreams. Then he gets placed in The Tower—a divine deathtrap where gods pit their creations against each other for the ultimate prize: eternal paradise for you and your friends. The catch? If you lose, well, let's just say your chances of finding a decent bar in oblivion are slim.

Great First Entry for a LitRPG!

**** I received an ARC from Mountaindale Press ****
Story:
I love Jack as a character, he gives off Deadpool without superpowers and 4th wall break vibes. He is ruthless and still has a sense of self and a compassion for his friends. He is also a misanthropic drunk a la Hugh Laurie's "House".
The side characters all seem to have some "meat" to their backstory and there is more to dig into there. Definitely creates conflict and comradery.
The world is very, at least from what we see, "dark Sword Art Online" tower climbing isekai. We only see the first level of a many leveled dungeon, so it is hard to understand the world building that much.
Also, I have been walking around my house saying "centipedey centipedey centipedey" to my kids all weekend.
Performance:
John McClain seems like the perfect name for the narrator of this book. He gives the main character all of the smarmy confidence you would expect from an assassin. No notes.

In Grandpa times, we continue to struggle to find a good place to live, to become a real Cultivator again, and the clock on the Heavenlies is running out. Then there's the whole prospect of the Chains of Chaos completely unraveling at great cost to local reality. I'm going to need yet another pillow for the pile.

It's the End of the World as we Know It
Revisado: 06-04-24
*** I Received an ARC from Mountaindale Press ***
We have finally caught up to Completionist Chronicles and get to see what Artorian was up to while the early events of that series were happening. This book tees up a lot of new cultivation content going forward. Lots of new lore and, as always, tons of puns and meta jokes.
I am looking forward to more books and seeing Artorian grow to new heights.

Kat paid for her position with blood. Hers, and from those who stood in her way. Now, she has finally climbed to a spot where she has real power; she can improve things the way she thinks is necessary. But power isn't as simple as she thought it would be. It comes with complications and obligations that stop her from taking action and enemies that don't like to share their authority.

Back and Better than Ever
Revisado: 04-17-24
** I received an ARC from Mountaindale Press **
Performance:
Andrea Parsneau is perfect in this role. Her narration of the combat really pulls the listener in. Outside of combat it is amazing some of the things she manages to convey with her library of voices.
Story:
After the flurry of releases in 2022 I was hoping the pace of releases would keep up. Alas, it was 18 months wait for this entry and I would wait another 18 months for this quality of content (but please don't make me wait). Kat and the Crew aren't resting after all of their success, despite having the resources to do so. In fact, Kat is very much a "hands on" sort of leader and gets in plenty of trouble. The action is very consistent throughout the entire book. The dreamscape vs real world aspect really feeds into that constant action without making it tired and repetitive.
This series is in my top 3 recommendations to friends consistently and this book only serves to reinforce that ranking.

Historia
Digby secured a fragile peace agreement between the empire and Las Vegas. While it’s been only two weeks since then, the city has thrived. A lot can change when no one is trying to smite you off the face of the earth. Unfortunately, more success just means more to lose, and with Henwick hell-bent on finishing what he started, Digby needs power. Enough to protect himself, his friends, and the all-too-fragile peace.

Hilariously Fun
Revisado: 03-27-24
** I received an ARC from Mountaindale Press **
Performance:
My love for Travis Baldree is well documented, but this book really blew it out of the park. He does a great job with the back and forth arguing dynamics of the dysfunctional band of heroes.
Story:
Honestly I can't say enough good things about this entry in the series. There is a point where you know exactly the direction that the book is taking and it doesn't disappoint. The reverse-heist story line is comedy gold for these characters and the campsite scene had me rolling. All sorts of dominoes are being setup for future books and I can't wait to see how they get knocked down.

Must Read entry in the series
Revisado: 03-14-24
**I received an ARC from Mountaindale Press**
This series is so much fun and this book shows that Gonnella is really hitting his stride with this world. I burned through all 22 hours of audio with days to spare because I just couldn't stop listening.
Performance:
I once again will state my love of all things Travis Baldree. I will listen to him read the ingredients off a shampoo bottle. He continues to do amazingly with this series and I hope he stick with it to the end.
Story:
Felix continues to find challenges as this series moves quickly in the direction of a final confrontation with the Hierophant. The story seems to sprint with non-stop action on multiple fronts. We find answers about why the Unbound were summoned and the nature of the Ruin. I won't say more for fear of spoiling the actual experience, but if you have made it this far in the series you owe it to yourself to read this book.

Love the World Building
Revisado: 02-01-24
**I received an ARC from Mountaindale Press**
Performance: Narrator changed from previous books. That comes with it's ups and downs. I love Austin Rising and every time he does the Vaudevillain voice it reinforces that. Previous narrator was much better at portraying the Hispanic characters, but Austin's voice seems a perfect fit for the Main Character.
Story: I love the world building in this series. The world is like a slowly blooming flower. This applies both to the literal geographic world building happening along with the LitRPG mechanics. You can really tell the author is putting a lot of effort into conceptualizing this adventure and system.
One thing I would love to see in the future for this world is spin off series showing how other characters in the story made their way. I would have loved for this main series to be more focused on individualized POVs of the 3 bunker busters but it is Ronin centric with the other two being tag-alongs more and more. That doesn't detract from the adventure though, just a personal preference.
Either way can't wait for book 6 and beyond.

Artorian's stroll onto Earth is cut short by a dagger in the back. Dealing with an unjust loss, he's torn between mourning what was lost and plotting a deviously calculated revenge. An eye for an eye, a stab for a stab. It's time to roll up those sleeves, whip out the master plan, and get down to crafting the narrative.

Back to the old world
Revisado: 12-07-23
Performance: John Pirhalla is great as he has been for the past 6 books. I am unsure if he is pronouncing Tatum incorrectly or pronouncing Totum (calling back to the potato joke) correctly, which was my only hangup and would be fixed easily with whispersync.
Story: Artorian finally gets to get out of Cal for a bit. Hijinx ensue. Revenge is served up in a uniquely Artorian fashion. Great new chapter of this story and it feels refreshing to be away from "The Game" and back to where stakes exist.

Historia
In the blink of an eye, a wiki editor’s deep and somewhat unhealthy understanding of a game becomes useful, usable knowledge when he inexplicably replaces the once-cruel royal bastard. Before he can start to push his frail body to use his deep understanding of the lore to handle the imminent apocalypse, or go off to stop an invasion, there’s a more personal task he needs to handle first. His cousin has a knife in her hand, and death in her eyes.

Drew me in quick.
Revisado: 12-07-23
Performance: Loved Luke Daniels in this audiobook. He is wonderfully sarcastic and it fits this character well.
Story: Since this is the first book I don't want to get too spoilery. This has a very Threads of Fate by Michael Head feel. The MC isn't overpowered due to a quirk of the system or a lucky set of circumstances, he is powerful because he has knowledge and the ability to capitalize on that knowledge.
Instantly bought the second audio book from the publisher when I finished this one because it was SO good and I couldn't wait to start on the next one.

Keeps Getting Better
Revisado: 09-29-23
***I received an ARC from Mountain Press for this Book***
This series is always an instant download for me when I am offered a new entry. I was wary 8 books ago that Felix would be too overpowered for the book to have any real stakes. He fought and killed a primordial in the first book, it is hard deal with power creep when that is entry one.
PERFORMANCE: Obligatory section where I once again offer to sit in the booth with covers and hot cocoa while Travis Baldree just reads the story directly into my ears. Also, a request for a bloopers section I would love to see the mistakes that happen behind the scenes, but my current meta theory is that Travis just manages to read the book in one session without stopping or stumbling.
STORY: Somehow Gonnella has manages to subvert expectations with each new entry. Even now, Felix is shown to be comically overpowered to the surprise of every new foe he defeats and every new ally he makes. Yet throughout the process he seems to be flying by the seat of his pants and making it up as he goes along, or in some cases gets pulled along by "gods" and fate.
Regardless this 25 hour long entry into the series was just so fun from start to finish. Book 9 can't come soon enough. I doubt you are reading this review and making a decision on whether or not you should start this series, but if you are, stop reading this review and just start reading the series.

Feels like a Narrated D&D Campaign
Revisado: 08-16-23
Performance:
Gabriel Michael does a great job here. Not a lot to critique.
Story:
Loving this series and I love it more with each entry. This one really started to feel like a D&D campaign, very similar to the Axe Druid series. Except, you know, with mostly competent players.
Ronin constantly over invests and earns his title of "Rocks for Brains" multiple times but always gets the job done. The world unfolds and we learn lots more about the magic system. I love the fact that the world building literally happens from a small bunker and radiates outward. As the characters learn more about the world it is revealed to the reader as well without excessive exposition.
