Historia
A war-weary Battle Group Praxis arrives at the Knight world of Kamidar, ruled by the Iron Queen Orlah, to return the queen's slain daughter and heir, who died in Guilliman's name. In truth, the Imperium's mission here is twofold: to strip Kamidar of its resources in order to resupply the flagging armada, and to prepare the Ironhold Protectorate to become part of the defensive Anaxian Line, a crucial bulwark for the Indomitus Crusade.

Worst book of the series. SPOILERS
Revisado: 04-06-24
I could tell almost immediately that this book wasn't very good, but I tried to give it a chance. Far too many obviously contrived plot points that made no real sense. The last straw was the Red Corsair marine stabbed through the chest AND slashed halfway through his body magically still running around like nothing happened and the magic escape that allows them to steal the flagship. Just stupid. Terribly written.

Historia
In the mid-23rd century, Darwin, Australia, stands as the last human city on Earth. The world has succumbed to an alien plague, with most of the population transformed into mindless, savage creatures. The planet’s refugees flock to Darwin, where a space elevator—created by the architects of this apocalypse, the Builders—emits a plague-suppressing aura.

Garbage in, garbage out
Revisado: 06-23-21
Warning: spoilers.
The author spends an entire book making one of the main characters out to be extremely smart, extremely meticulous, and with an extensive, well-thought-out plan.
Then, the bad guys magically overrun all his defenses, he has no way out and no contingency, and he just dies stupidly.
Talk about lazy, garbage writing.
And he does it repeatedly.
Sad, really. It was a really engaging story ruined by never letting the good guys win for a second, no matter how contrived he had to make the bad guys' success. Somebody watched too much Game of Thrones.

Easily the worst 40k book ever
Revisado: 03-18-21
Terrible waste of a credit and hours of my life. Badly written, full of plot holes and contradictions and then a nonsensical ending that resolves nothing. Truly terrible.

This is one of the most engrossing stories I've listened to in a long time.
I was so disappointed when it ended! To me that is the best indication of how much it held my attention.

Contrived garbage
Revisado: 12-30-18
This book doesn't approach the previous books. It feels articially designed to keep the good guys from winning and was painfully predictable.
Repeatedly I was able to say "now this will happen" and was right because it was so obvious how the story was being steered.
It almost felt like this was primarily designed to get you to read the NEXT book instead of providing a decent story for this one. Shamefully bad.

Not Sten. Just garbage posing as Sten. I expected better from this author.
I have been a fan of the series for decades and read the books many times and I was hoping for more. This is simply awful.

Awful. Doesn't belong in this series.
Revisado: 12-28-17
Feels like a total amateur wrote it. Could have been called "everyone dies somehow." I literally started filling in dialogue with "and he took a round in the (chest/head/etc) and was (killed instantly/dead before he hit the ground)." It was that predictable. If you like contrived " bad guys always kill the good guys" and dialogue where every third word is f*ck, this is the book for you. If you want decent writing and someone who actually understands military tactics, look elsewhere.
