Devotion tells the inspirational story of the U.S. Navy’s most famous aviation duo, Lieutenant Tom Hudner and Ensign Jesse Brown, and the Marines they fought to defend. A white New Englander from the country-club scene, Tom passed up Harvard to fly fighters for his country. An African American sharecropper’s son from Mississippi, Jesse became the navy’s first Black carrier pilot, defending a nation that wouldn’t even serve him in a bar.

Even Better Than the Movie
Revisado: 04-20-23
If you're a military history buff or just love a good story, you will like this book. Given the rising racial tensions in our nation this book reminds us of the type of good things that are possible in the great melting pot that is America. The Navy's first black fighter pilot and his friendship with white counterparts in the 1950s amidst segregation etc. Great true story!

Life-Changing
Revisado: 04-20-23
Jay Stringer approaches this topic from a Biblical perspective but in a way that I have never encountered. I have been to many kinds of Christian seminars and read many Christian books on this topic but Jay has a revelation on our "sexual story" that I found to be life-changing. I have also attended two of his seminars. I strongly recommend this book for any Christian that has suffered sexual abuse or is struggling with sexual compulsions or sexual shame or concerns about how they experience sexual thoughts.

The strategies and tips in this book have helped change the direction of my financial life. It has helped me decrease debts, increase my credits, and educated me on investing and saving strategies. Although this edition is dated, it was still extremely valuable and worth the listen!

Powerful Healing Ministry for Abused Persons
Revisado: 04-20-23
Chapter 2 of this book contains some of the most powerful ministry on the subject of abuse that I have ever encountered. It addresses sexual, physical, verbal, and spiritual abuse as well as neglect. I have listened to it over and over and I have purchased the book for others. The author gives definitions, provides Scriptural support, and also shares real-life cases. It is powerful! I believe anyone who has ever suffered abuse should have it and it should be a recommended resource for EVERY Christian counselor, pastor.

Historia
Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns. As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds.

Great read for anyone dealing with toxic thoughts
Revisado: 05-17-20
Jennie Allen’s book has been a very timely resource for me. I liken it to Joyce Meyer’s Battlefield of the Mind. It’s marketed toward women but the truths in it apply to anyone dealing with depression, debilitating thoughts, negative self-image, anxiety and other out of control thoughts. It’s also a great resource for anyone struggling with how to develop greater intimacy with God. I plan to buy it for my stepmom and my godson. I like that the book is written simply in a way that is easy to understand the spiritual concepts that are presented. As a person who produces audiobooks, I also thought that Jennie did a great job as the narrator! Her delivery is smooth, calming, reassuring and genuine. I read a lot of Christian books. I think this is a great one to add to your Christian library!

Historia
His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today. As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.

What An Amazing Book! Glory to God
Revisado: 04-04-20
I believe that most black men over 40 need this book. I believe that mothers of black boys need this book. I believe that black women married to black men need this book. Pastors that shepherd black men need this book. Emphasizing black men does not negate or downgrade the excellent and anointed ministry of this book. To the contrary, highlighting "black" touts the laser-focused ministry to black men in this book. This book recognizes that there are experiences that are unique to the African American community and to the African American man. This book can't be read or listened to once. It can't be swallowed it has to be chewed over and over like the digestive processes in a cow's four stomachs. I know personally that I will need the help of my therapist or the many coping resources shared at the end of this book. Some segments registered with me so powerfully that I had to stop listening for days at a time. This book is a healing resource. If there are areas of woundedness this book will trigger their resurrection from the deep hidden places in the soul. If you are in any of the categories that I mentioned above...buy this book today!

President/CEO of Franklin Entertainment and former Sony Pictures executive DeVon Franklin and award-winning actress Meagan Good have learned sometimes all we can do is wait for "the one" to come into our lives. They spent years crossing paths, but it wasn't until they were thrown together while working on the film Jumping the Broom that their storybook romance began.

Why I Left the Jewish Religion to Follow Jesus

Historia
I'm sure you are going to be very surprised to learn that in most Jewish homes, you won't find a Bible there. But, isn't it very strange, you might say...that how come the nation known as the "People of the Book" do not possess a Bible in their homes? What is even more surprising is although you would think that the Jewish people follow and know the Scriptures well, the shocking real truth is that most of the Old Testament books are a mystery to the Jews.

Good Book, needs more
Revisado: 02-12-17
What made the experience of listening to Why I Left the Jewish Religion to Follow Jesus the most enjoyable?
I did learn some things about the practice of Judiasm that I had not heard anywhere else. I found some of the facts very interesting.
Would you be willing to try another book from Bernard Levine? Why or why not?
I'm not sure. I think in a sequel the author could explain more about why Jews don't use more books of the Old Testament, perhaps interview some rabbis. I expected more of a redemptive book aimed at Jewish people. The content is more like an "inside view of the practice of Judaism" vs. why he became a Christian and more importantly his experience with Jesus. I almost wanted him to reverse the chapter order and talk about the OT prophecies of Jesus and then go into a segment that talks about his day to day relationship, communion, and fellowship with Jesus. As it is currently written I don't know if there is enough meat to the "why" he left to draw people out of Judaism other than Christianity has less rules. I grew up Catholic, and have also been in "holiness" churches where the rules are strict and on the surface the burden of the religious laws might not seem too different. I think if I were Jewish it might come across as bashing the way it starts out--spend less time on all the rules that have to be followed and more about your new relationship with the living God. Hope I didn't offend.
What does John Alan Martinson Jr. bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
John always does a good job making the audiobooks easy to listen to. He has a smooth, calm, easy presentation that is easy to follow.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was a statement that most Jews don't understand Hebrew. I wanted him to elaborate on this because I thought a lot of Jews were highly encouraged to study Hebrew.
