Historia
Naomi Novik’s beloved series returns, with Capt. Will Laurence and his fighting dragon Temeraire once again taking to the air against the broadsides of Napoleon’s forces and the friendly—and sometimes not-so-friendly—fire of British soldiers and politicians who continue to suspect them of divided loyalties, if not outright treason.

Excellent Performance, But Modernism Creeps In
Revisado: 03-07-24
Novik isn't known to be particularly conservative, but having a central character "come out" as "inverted" was pointless, along with the consistent Wakanda-esque "fantastical enlightened savages" of Africa and South America starring in two of the books so far. I would have preferred a focus on the Peninsular Campaign with the Spanish and British fighting the French in old Sharpe's Rifles tradtion, but no... racial politics, gender identity, homosexuality, and ethics of slavery is the flavor of the month. Honestly makes me want to stop continuing with the series and just reread The Powder Mage books.

Historia
In Of Dice and Men, David Ewalt recounts the development of Dungeons & Dragons from the game’s roots on the battlefields of ancient Europe, through the hysteria that linked it to satanic rituals and teen suicides, to its apotheosis as father of the modern video-game industry. As he chronicles the surprising history of the game’s origins (a history largely unknown even to hardcore players) and examines D&D’s profound impact, Ewalt weaves laser-sharp subculture analysis with his own present-day gaming experiences.

A Must Read for Anyone in the Hobby
Revisado: 09-29-22
One of the best books on the subject of D&D history and roleplaying games, as well as one of the best contemporary biographical stories outside of statesmen. With excellent narration and impeccable style, this book can be listened to repeatedly. Thank you to the author for this gem.

Phenomenal Continuation of a Grand Story
Revisado: 05-17-22
No words can describe how much I love this series. Very fascinating story with great characters and interesting set pieces as world history is rewritten. Character development gets even more attention, though sometimes in ways unexpected and at times uncomfortable. As always, aside from some butchering of foreign words, narration is splendid.

Historia
War seethed across the planet. Machines soared through the air, churned through the seas, crawled across the surface, pushing ever forward, carrying death. Earth was engaged in titanic struggle. Germany, Russia, France, China, Japan: the maps were changing day by day. The hostilities spread in ever-widening ripples of destruction: Britain, Italy, Africa...the fate of the world hung in the balance. Then the real enemy came.

A Childhood Favorite, An Evergreen Classic
Revisado: 05-12-22
I love this series and always have. One of the best science fiction/ alternate history book series ever written. Turtledove is a master of his craft. The narrator botches some of the pronunciation, but the personality and passion in narration is splendid. Well worth a credit.

Phenomenal Military Techno Thriller!
Revisado: 07-04-21
On par with the late Tom Clancy and great Larry Bond, another tour de force by Mr Poyer. The only detraction are the occasional gaffes by the narrator in pronunciation, but it can easily be overlooked. Absolutely incredible story which took me off guard several times despite me following the narrative for the entirety of the series. Possibly my favorite setting, better than the Ryanverse.

Historia
This is the book that dares to show us the military hardware, global upheavals, and raw combat a second Korean War would unleash. How F-16s would blast across the 38th Parallel. How ultra-modern submarines would vie for the seas. And how two armies would turn the snowfields of Asia red with blood. A thundering geopolitical thriller of vast scope, this is Red Phoenix - and a new standard for military/political suspense fiction.

Techno Thriller of the Highest Quality
Revisado: 04-07-21
Larry Bond delivers a brilliant war novel in the spirit of nail-biters from the good old days, back when the late Tom Clancy and those like them produced truly gripping and inspired yarns. The narration leaves a little to be desired of, but it was the 90s and neither the audiobook artform nor the availability of military experts had reached peak levels yet. I enjoyed ever second of this production.

A Timeless Clancy Classic
Revisado: 03-11-21
Absolutely love the Clancy classics, this one being particularly heartfelt with sacrifice and heroism by characters put in harm's way through no fault of their own. The book masterfully demonstrates good and evil in the most American way possible, which is something I personally enjoy. I revisit this series every time I feel particularly disheartened by current events and am reminded that the more things change... the more they stay the same.

The End of a Beloved Era
Revisado: 07-31-20
No words can describe the feelings associated with the end of this book and series. A masterpiece work of fiction with some of the greatest characters and stories of all time. The loss of the beloved narrator is assuaged by the respect and skill will which the conclusion is handled by the replacement. The author's note at the end was just a cherry on top for all us fans. Bravo.

Out of the first three books this one is an absolute nailbiter. The descriptions of men fighting the elements and danger at sea is enough to cause panic and lightheadedness. Absolute adrenaline rush and very expertly written.

Best Modern Naval Techno Thriller Series Ever!
Revisado: 11-15-19
I absolutely love this author and his books. Possibly not the character and story finesse of Tom Clancy, but the Naval warfare is presented in a way that no other author aside from Larry Bond has ever captured. Brilliantly done and Dan Lenson is a fantastic protagonist.
