This book is so poorly written, I kept listening to it because I could not believe the ridiculous story line could get any worse. Surprise! It did. Do not waste a dime on this book.

I bought this book because I have enjoyed Mr. Robotham's books before. But this one you must listen to. It starts off a bit slow and you have to listen carefully as the characters are many and complex in their relationships to one another. This book really took me by surprise with many twists and turns. You think you are reading one story and then it totally changes. I love any book that I think about for days after I have read it and this is exactly that type of story. It starts off as a prison story but becomes so much more. If you listen to this book you have a real treat ahead of you. Congratulations Michael Robotham, this is now my favorite of your books!

Watchman pales next To Kill A Mockingbird

As a southerner who lived through the eras depicted in both books, I find it difficult but must admit the truisms in each book. It almost seems that Watchman was deliberately written after Mockingbird but I thought from the press that Watchman was Harper Lee's first book? I have to admit that Mockingbird is my all time favorite book and I read it once a year. It reminds me of our weaknesses and yet our ability to find people of enlightened quality in those troubled times in the south. To Kill A Mockingbird is about friendship, family, evil, goodness, hard times and a young woman of incredible character all told in a timeless manner that can teach all of us about the importance of even one person standing against the pack. It is also just a great story. Watchman comes at a time, 20 years later in history, when the NAACP and Black People decided not to take our prejudices and rules of life anymore. Therefore we find Atticus has become a State's RIght Advocate (at the time one way to embrace bigotry) instead of a human advocate. I am glad Scout never changed her views and in a time when women were as discounted as black people she held her own. I thought Reese Witherspoon did a great job as the narrator. I do not feel this book will stand through the ages but I thank Harper Lee for giving me To Kill A Mockingbird. I will continue to read it every year to remind myself that while life is messy, we can make a difference if we stand up for what is right.

I cannot stop thinking about this book. Jon Krakauer has done another top-notch job of bringing research to a subject no one wants to think or talk about. This is not a pretty topic, nor is the book for the faint of heart but this subject I believe is more prevalent than abortion, and date rape leaves both the male and female prime candidates for PTSD which can last a lifetime. I was shocked when my daughter told me how many young women she knew who had been date raped at her college and even in her inner circle. One young woman almost died of anorexia after the rape as she lost so much self esteem and only with the help of her women friends did she turn it around and now has a much happier existence. If you don't believe this is happening at all the colleges in the country, you have blinders on. There is a national organization on most campuses called "Take Back the Night" which focuses on sexual violence against any student, male or female. My child was involved in this group so I went to the event and the bravery it took for these young women and some young men to stand up and tell their stories mostly for the first time in public, made me cry like a baby. It is a fantastic organization and certainly can help with the PTSD that can come with a trauma of this sort. This was a fantastic academic and Division 1 school and I can tell from first hand, the athletes can get away with murder. The school turns its head so the "moola" from the sports, particularly football, keeps rolling in. I am an avid football fan, but I do not believe being a hero on a field with a ball gives these athletes the right to rape or take whatever they want. The school had a quarterback accused of date rape a few years back, and amazingly he is now a quarterback in the NFL. Great athlete, seemingly nice guy but the info about the rape was announced and amazingly it just faded away. No information was forth coming about an investigation, just suddenly the girl said she had made a mistake. I do believe there are people who for whatever "sick" reason accuse some of date rape falsely and in my mind if that can be proved, that person should be expelled and prosecuted. The incidence of false accusations are there, but rare from where I am sitting. I wonder what role Steroids take in this increase in date rape. I do know that alcohol is a major factor. If you or someone you know has been date raped, there is a therapy called EMDR that was developed for Vets who came home with PTSD. I lost a child several years ago and I can tell you this therapy works for most people who develop PTSD and cannot move forward with their lives. I will end with a few questions, Why as Americans can we not face the tough issues and correct them? Why is it always money that takes precedence over the well being of our children? Where will we be if we are too chicken to face this very heart-rending and difficult issue soon? I was discussing it with a person I know who has two girls and the person said,"Oh NO, I could never read that! I don't even want to think about it." Parents : get your heads out of the sand and realize that life can be a scary place if you are not equipped with the facts. We made sure our children knew statistics about this issue and taught them saying no, meant NO! Even then, one of their best friends who is now a lawyer for women's rights and one of the smartest women I have ever met was date raped by being drugged by a classmate she trusted. Our colleges and universities will only change if the Parents and the Students demand action.

I started this book 3 times and kept thinking at the beginning-"oh great another book about death," but today for some reason I let it keep running and it turned out to be humorous and
sarcastic, about friendships and family, the earth and sky and always a bit of loneliness. I lost a child ten years ago and this book made me laugh, feel sad but peaceful. No matter how many years the grief is always with you, it is just what you do with the grief. I recommend this book highly.

I just finished the book and I am still not sure what the book is trying to convey to laymen about sociopaths. Poorly written, too wordy, narrator not the right voice for this book. Every 15 minutes I wanted to stop reading but hung in there and still don't know why???

This book is so convoluted and makes so many twists and turns that make no sense to the story that the author must have been listening to voices I could not hear.

I find Liane Moriarty's books to be incredibly moving. The way she weaves her characters in and out and then entangles them in the guts of the story is masterful. She certainly nailed life in a rich town. You get the good, the bad, and the ugly. This book is about abuse of all kinds: verbal, emotional, and physical. I think it certainly is pertinent to the times. It is set in Australia so the narrator and accent are a bit irritating, but the story overrides all. Definitely a must read for any woman who has ever been controlled by a male, her kids, her schedule, her job, etc.
