Story deteriorates in later books
Revisado: 09-02-23
This is a combination of the first three books in this series. I had already listened to and reviewed the first of the three books (Broken Worlds). That book dealt primarily with the story of two soldiers from opposite sides of the war that had gotten thrown together and their fight to avoid death from the aggressor army.
The second book in this volume deals primarily with the back story of two others that had a ship that rescued the two main characters from book 1 and som minor part of the story of minor character that was briefly introduced in the first book. The story was not as good as the first book but was still reasonably interesting. (I would give this book 3 stars if I was rating it by itself).
The third book has one side story the goes into more detail about the aforementioned minor character from book one. The main story focuses on the main characters' interaction with a new child character with supernatural mental abilities. It really did not seem to fit in with the general story line from the first two book. (I would give this story 2 or 2.5 stars).
Combining all three stories in the volume I come up with a 3 star rating on the volume.
I am not inclined to continue with the future books in this saga.

Historia
Pingzi Po is the only demon queller in the medieval Far East. So far, she has quelled exactly one demon: Benzel of the Wolf, a dragonslayer from the Northlands. Now, she must act as Benzel’s interpreter when he’s charged with slaying a dangerous yellow dragon seen only by an emperor. But the emperor reveals the Yellow Dragon isn’t an animal - it’s an unidentified citizen in his province, who has threatened to murder the emperor.

Middle-school - 5 Star / Adult - 4 Star
Revisado: 08-06-23
I am a bit torn on rating this book. The story was intriguing but the overall tone seemed to be more fitting for a middle-school audience. So for that audience I would give it 5-stars, but for adult audience I would give it 3.5-4 stars. Since there is noting in the description to indicate the intended audience, I am going with 4 stars.
The book gives many references to the Far East culture (at least in the time period of the book). I am not sure if it is accurate, but seemed to be which was interesting, although a number of references were repeated frequently in the story (such as the strict laws with harsh punishments).
There was no indication of what constituted a "demon" although that may be covered in a previous book. It appeared that anyone with evil intent was considered a demon.
Overall I enjoyed the plot and if the presentation was a bit less didactic I would give it a 5 Star rating. I would also recommend for reading to middle-school age children.
I received this audiobook as a free review copy and am giving my honest opinion.

Good story concept - So-so presentation
Revisado: 07-23-23
The overall story arc was quite interesting, but the presentation was rather dry. It was all first person narrative with a lot of "he said" type of references and was quite emotionless (although emotions were described, they didn't really com through in the telling very well.
The narration was fairly well done with the voices of the people speaking rather well differentiated, although other than that it seems somewhat monotone, although that may have just been a reflection of the writing.
This was a series of multiple books and each book did wrap up the main plots so if you were to read them individually there wouldn't be cliff-hangers.
I received this as a free review copy and although I don't regret the time listening to it, I am not sure I would have been happy if I had spent money on it.

Highly recomment this very amusing book
Revisado: 04-08-23
Truly enjoyed this book. the main character really did have bad luck, often due to his own ineptitude, but still quite relatable. He does seem to be able to make the best of a bad situation most of the time. Toward the end his luck seems to change in rather unexpected ways.
The character development was very good and you could sympathize with his predicaments. The narration was also very good.
I highly recommend this very amusing book.

Surprisingly good book
Revisado: 04-08-23
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book as a previous one from this author to me was rather so-so. I was pleasantly surprised however. The story line was entertaining with quite a few twist and turns (although some were a bit of a stretch - hence th loss of one star) but overall very good. The ending was not expected but satisfying.
The narration was excellent. You could identify different characters often just by the voice even though it was the same narrator giving the story good flow.
I definitely recommend this audiobook.

Good space adventure
Revisado: 03-07-23
This was an interesting story line that kept me interested to see what would happen next. It does a good job of developing the characters and their reasoning.
The narrator does a fairly good job with the different character's voices, but seemed and bit breathy and rushed in the first few chapters. It may have been intentional to reflect the intensity of the chase so to speak, but to me it was more of a distraction.
Overall I did enjoy the book and would definitely recommend it.

Good story but iffy Dialogue
Revisado: 02-28-23
The book story line/plot was good, but the dialog sounded more like something out of a pulp detective novel. For me that was a bit of a detraction, but some people might like that method. The story was a good 4.5 star, but the dialog drew it down to a 4.
The narration was well done,
