Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Heart-wrenching story of loss and love
Revisado: 07-11-22
Beautifully written story about an era in our history that shouldn't be forgotten but is hard to read about. Zusak did a wonderful job mixing the hard horror with glimpses of love and kindness. Well done!

Fantastic story that transports you back in time!
Revisado: 02-03-22
A fantastic story that is so very well told. The the idea that money, specifically the love of money, can corrupt our soul is so clearly shown here in the story of Silas Marner. But what is also shown is how love and relationships can redeem even the most broken among us. Beautiful story!

Great story about faithfulness
Revisado: 01-07-22
A beautifully written story about love and faithfulness and what it might have looked like to be a Christian in the first century Roman era. the character development brings you right into their lives as they struggle over real things....Francine Rivers shows the reality of our depravity and it resonates in the reader/listener's heart.

A timely reminder to slow down in a world of hurry
Revisado: 05-26-21
This was such a beautifully written book reminding all of us to slow down and unhurry our hearts. I don't know if the timing of it coming right on the heels of the worldwide pandemic known as covid - 19 This was what made it so helpful to me, but I know I need Ed to hear these words at this point in my life! Thank you Jennifer for writing these words and for being bold to say them in a world that is all about productivity and accomplishment and multitasking. You have given me permission to say yes to the best things and no to some good things In order to slow down and unhurry. The way you pointed us all to Christ as the chief farmer and one who is helping us take care of the soil that is before us was such an encouragement. Thank you thank you!!
