Too many PoV characters

There's way too many point of view characters for such a short book, and the constant jumping from one to another without and transition make it hard to get into the story. To the point where I just got bored.

Alex is inconsistent

The way Alex acts and uses her powers in this book are just not consistent with any version of Alex. In True Colors, Alex uses her powers to make human connections to people to help foster understanding. In this, she uses them to be nosy and manipulative. In the game, her powers help create a greater understanding. In this book, they make everything worse. The only redeeming part of the book is Erika Mori.

Good story ruined with libertarian propaganda

The world building at its core is interesting, but by the mid point of the book it starts to feel like half of each chapter is just bashing anything that isn't libertarianism. Also doesn't help that the main character is too perfect to exist.

The performance was great, though. If I'd been reading it instead of listening I probably wouldn't have bothered to finish.

The idea for the book is interesting. However, The characters are completely impossible to like. They're arrogant and constantly described as being basically perfect Uber men. Which is particularly galling when you realize the book then goes on to sugar coat eugenics. Wish I could return it but I bought it in a 2 for 1 sale.

Also, the narrators choice of voices for the male bad guys is grating.

Meandering plot with invincible characters

The blurb sounded cool. Nation of vampires with complex government and functional society. Nice!

Wrong. Neither the strengths nor weaknesses of the vampires ever matter. They could be Humans, Elves, or miniature giant space hamsters and the story wouldn't change. They're vampires because the author thought it would be cool for them to be vampires but then they did NOTHING with them.

But that doesn't matter because the vampires are also largely irrelevant. The vampire protagonist is basically the POV character that mostly just follows around a group of impossibly skilled and basically invincible other protagonists while they do things that don't matter. I listened to all of the first book and most of the second today but I honestly don't even remember the point of the first book because it was largely irrelevant.

On top of that, what little plot IS present is repeatedly interrupted by completely irrelevant "interludes" where we get backstory about the protagonists whose only purpose seems to be to make self-referential in-jokes that are largely the author's attempt to replicate Pratchett's style, without any of Pratchett's actual ability to be funny.

If I didn't get this for free as part of amazon's "Plus Catalogue", I'd demand a refund.

The narrator was great and, frankly, is the only reason I made it as far into the book as I did but even an amazing narrator can only carry a boring story so far.

Great performance, no through-line

The description of the book says it adapts three comics, but the content feels more like ten barely connected short stories. By the time the story has made us care about any particular character, it moves on to a different one.

The performance is great, it's an audio play with great actors so it should be, and the world of the story is interesting with lots of potential. The actual stoty is just not what is promised by the blurb or by the first part of the book.

Also, since it seems to be a bunch of short stories, the style (and amount of gore) shifts wildly.

The narrator was good but this short story is drowning in so much faux masculinity and "anti-SJW" bullshit that it's not worth the time. Frankly, with the length of the story, there's very little to it other than a conservative wet dream.

Poorly written, prologue gives away the plot

Look, I get it. In general, we know the protagonist is going to survive. That doesn't mean you should START the book with a prologue about someone in the MUSEUM dedicated to them telling their story from the future. Most prologues are bad but this kind is particularly egregious.

So much exposition

Revisado: 06-11-19

The core idea of the series is interesting. Its implementation here is clunky and full of random, chapter length, exposition dumps in the middle of combat. There are several times when IN THE MIDDLE of a fight we suddenly have the book cut to an entire chapter of exposition. It changes what's supposed to be a tense and impressive fight into a boring, mind-numbingly slow slog. The same was present in book one but I hoped the author would have realized their mistake. Instead, it's worse in book 2. I won't be getting the third if one comes out.
