Historia
Peter Gethers wants to give his aging mother a very personal and perhaps final gift: a spectacular feast featuring all her favorite dishes. The problem is, although he was raised to love food and wine he doesn't really know how to cook. So he embarks upon an often hilarious and always touching culinary journey that will ultimately allow him to bring his mother's friends and loved ones to the table one last time.

what a wonderful woman!
Revisado: 01-12-25
This is a wonderful tribute to the author's mother. Food, whether in a 5 star restaurant, prepared by a celebrity chef, or made by a novice Cook will be excellent if prepared with love and shared.

Best Character Is The Cat
Revisado: 09-11-24
Unfortunately the cat doesn't appear until late in the story. Expected more from the main character. Apparently her major talent was winning starting contests. All characters sounded like they were whining throughout the book.

"Happy" Ending
Revisado: 09-06-24
Good dimensional story telling by moving back in time and different viewpoints of the characters. Unfortunately, the main female characters were, for me, unlikable. They crossed the border nto nut jobs.

Hoping there will be more from Liu and this cast! Definitely would like more from How's diary; and by the way, how did he drive back to California without Dave?

Insight to inequalities, addiction, people preying on others. There's hope as evidenced by Buck's trial.

Historia
Philosophy begins with questions about the nature of reality and how we should live. These were the concerns of Socrates, who spent his days in the ancient Athenian marketplace asking awkward questions, disconcerting the people he met by showing them how little they genuinely understood. This engaging book introduces the great thinkers in Western philosophy and explores their most compelling ideas about the world and how best to live in it.

Easy To Understand for Someone New to Philosophy
Revisado: 02-23-23
Mind expanding. This may be my most favorite book. Prior to these "Cliff Notes" for Philosophy, did not know there were so many besides Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, etc. There are certainly unknown philosophers among us. Perhaps we need to engage and listen more; not accept the status quo.

Only one part was horror in the beginning. Must re-read the story to take notes. Liked the weaving of known history and current events with the story line. For me a good writer will leave me curious to research new topics. Narration was excellent too.

Historia
In 1968, nine competitors set out in a race that had never before been attempted: to sail around the world, alone, without stopping. The route took them through the most dangerous waters on earth. Seeking help was forbidden, and psychologists speculated that the 10 months alone at sea could drive the sailors mad. The winner was promised money and attention, but everyone knew that the real prize was to become a legend. What no one predicted was how.

Excellent first chapter
Revisado: 09-28-22
Looking forward to the entire book. Yes, the chapter focused on undertaking a major challenge involving sailing. Yes, it focused on maintenance necessary for its undertaking. More than that, I think it also delineated different thought hprocesses, different ways of completing a project. Agile Project Management came to mind. On the personal level, How do we handle our own lives and challenges? Do we plan for unforseen problems or just hope forthe best? Brand packed a lot into his first chapter.

Narration was the best part...
Revisado: 07-12-22
but it couldn't save the story line which was predictable halfway through. Neither of the adult female characters were believable. None of the adult female characters were likeable, except the nanny.
