Historia
In the quiet coastal town of Weston-super-Mare, a body is discovered at the foot of a cliff just months after a near-identical tragedy - and Detective Inspector Louise Blackwell can't believe it could be a coincidence. Next to the body, she discovers a note that echoes one found beside the first: Death is not the end. Louise is certain that behind these desperate acts someone is pulling the strings, but how many more will plunge to their demise before she can find out who - and why?

Too much time was spent rehashing what happened in book one of the series and some of the content was repetitious. Otherwise this book would have gotten a five star rating. I liked most of the characters and the story was different.

Historia
Reeling from a broken engagement, adopted 19-year-old Menina Walker flees to Spain to bury her misery by writing her overdue college thesis - and soon finds herself on an unexpected journey into the past. The subject of her study is Tristan Mendoza, an obscure 16th-century artist whose signature includes a tiny swallow - the same swallow depicted on a medal that is Menina’s only link to her birth family. Hoping her research will reveal the swallow’s significance and clue her in to her origins, Menina discovers the ancient chronicle of a Spanish convent containing the stories of five orphaned girls hidden from the Spanish Inquisition.

If you have the option to both read and listen to this book, (Amazon whispersync), I would highly recommend it. The book is both beautifully written and wonderfully narrated and the two versions complement one another.

Quitting her job as a high school science teacher to join the Seattle Police Department was an easy decision for Tracy Crosswhite. Years earlier, what should have been one of the happiest days of her life instead became her worst nightmare when her younger sister, Sarah, disappeared. After the murder trial, while her family disintegrated, Tracy turned her heartbreak and her lingering questions into a passion for justice.

As a female cop I found the book offensive.
Revisado: 10-10-16
What would have made The Academy better?
A training scenario that was more likely to happen and a reasonable response by the academy administration.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not a cop book.
Which character – as performed by Emily Sutton-Smith – was your favorite?
Tracy Crosswhite
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I like the main character and the descriptions and behavior of the cadets.
Any additional comments?
I have read another book in the Tracy Crosswhite series and enjoyed it very much. I intend to read additional books in the series. This short story, however, suggests a highly unlikely training scenario. Surely no professional law enforcement officer or trainer was consulted before this book was published. I actually went back to check the date that this book was published. 2014! Not only is it unlikely that the behavior would take place, but there is no freaking way that the behavior of the trainer as described in the book would go unpunished. I spent 30 years in law enforcement and was one of the first females hired by my agency. I have been a certified law enforcement trainer for over 20 years. I am not usually critical of cop stories with flaws in police procedure but I do admire accuracy and when an author has obviously researched a topic. While I like the way that the cadets were portrayed in the book and the way that the female cadets handled the training scenario that I find so offensive, if this had been my introduction to the author's work I would never read another of his books.

Historia
Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859) was an intrepid explorer and the most famous scientist of his age. His restless life was packed with adventure and discovery, whether climbing the highest volcanoes in the world or racing through anthrax-infested Siberia. He came up with a radical vision of nature, that it was a complex and interconnected global force and did not exist for man's use alone. Ironically, his ideas have become so accepted and widespread that he has been nearly forgotten.

Any additional comments?
This was actually a pretty enjoyable book. This is the third book in a series of three. I read Book 1. I probably won't read Book 2. The author's writing style includes lots of bad jokes and cliches and too many references to oldie-goldies for my taste. However, the protagonist is likeable and I love the relationship between him and his K-9.

I enjoyed the book enough that I finished it but this book is not well written. If I was an English teacher I probably would have had a coronary while reading it. The story is predicable. There is too much repetition. As a result I am not interested in reading anything else by this author.

Imaginative and Unpredicatble....I loved this book
Revisado: 11-03-15
What did you love best about Hunters Unlucky?
I attribute a lot of my enjoyment of this book to the narrator. Mr. Outfield's performance was outstanding. The story captured my imagination and the narration helped to define the characters for me. The voices and the accents were so distinct for each species and for each character. This was a wonderful book, unpredictable and beautifully performed.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Most of the characters appealed to me. I don't have a favorite.
Have you listened to any of Rish Outfield’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No but I plan to.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was captivated by the story and long after finishing the book I could still hear the voices of some of the characters in my head.
Any additional comments?
One of my favorite books ever!
