Historia
Follow the journey of Horace Holly and his ward, Leo Vincey, to a lost kingdom in the African interior. There they encounter a primitive race of natives and a mysterious white queen named Ayesha who reigns as the all-powerful "She", or "She-who-must-be-obeyed". In this work, Rider Haggard developed the conventions of the Lost World subgenre, which many later authors emulated.

This Classic Needs A British Voice
Revisado: 10-20-24
The story is still cracking. The narrator is fine but American and he does not have the cultural background to understand nuance.

Historia
Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, the third Roman Emperor, is better known by another name: Caligula, a name synonymous with decadence, cruelty and madness. His reign was marked by excess, huge building projects, the largest gladiatorial battles Rome was ever to see – men and animals killed in their hundreds – conspiracies, assassination attempts and sexual scandal.

Simply Superb
Revisado: 09-28-24
The narrative arc is as good as any you will find and ranks alongside Walter White, Lucky Jim, or Naz Khan (The Night Of). The insight into Caligulla as more than a simple cardboard cut out daddy is super. Best of all is the narration. Russell Boulter nails it and I am now a fan of his.

Stunning

Simply superb, On my third listen. The narrator is excellent and the pace, detail and sense of excitement are terrific. The end is quite moving, Such a splendid history ending the way it has is sad.

Historia
In the late 18th century, it was widely thought that to be a sailor was little better than to be a slave. "No man will be a sailor," wrote Samuel Johnson, "who has contrivance enough to get himself into jail. A man in jail has more room, better food, and commonly better company." If that were true, historian Nathan Miller suggests, then the record of sailing in the age of tall ships would likely be distinguished by few heroes and fewer grand narratives.

Anti British Rewrite of History
Revisado: 03-02-24
It would be interesting to learn what happened to the author to inspire this vitriol against Britain. According to this tripe the Americans were perfect and would have won everything if they had not been let down by the French.
I want my money and my time wasted listening back please.

Historia
He's a PI trying to put his life in perspective after his last go-round with the ultimate evil, but the chilling phrase returns again: "Your sister is going to hell, Jack Nightingale." This time it is uttered by a dead woman hanging over a staircase, her neck broken by the laundry cord she tied around it before tossing herself over the banister. But Jack and his sister have been separated since birth. How can he save someone he’s never met?

On September 13, 1759, a battle was fought on the Plains of Abraham outside the old city of Québec. It was one of the turning-point battles in world history. Thanks to the British victory and the events that followed, Canada went from being a colony of France (New France) to being a colony of Great Britain. This permanently changed Canadian history.

I so wanted to enjoy this and was crushed by the voice. Dull, uninterested and uninspired by his job obviously. Perhaps he is secretly French?

Historia
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.
