In Trans Like Me, CN Lester takes listeners on a measured, thoughtful, intelligent yet approachable tour through the most important and high-profile narratives around the trans community, turning them inside out and examining where we really are in terms of progress. From the impact of the media's wording in covering trans people and issues to the way parenting gender variant children is portrayed, Lester brings their charged personal narrative to every topic and expertly lays out the work left to be done.

I love this book! There are elements of Trans History that are often neglected and it was wonderful to hear a Trans writer speak on this information. Too often, it's neglected or simply overlooked. Excellent narration throughout!

Historia
La moria grandissima began its terrible journey across the European and Asian continents in 1347, leaving unimaginable devastation in its wake. Five years later, 25 million people were dead, felled by the scourge that would come to be called the Black Death. The Great Mortality is the extraordinary epic account of the worst natural disaster in European history - a drama of courage, cowardice, misery, madness, and sacrifice that brilliantly illuminates humankind's darkest days when an old world ended and a new world was born.

Historia
North America was settled by people with distinct religious, political, and ethnographic characteristics, creating regional cultures that have been at odds with one another ever since. Subsequent immigrants didn't confront or assimilate into an "American" or "Canadian" culture, but rather into one of the 11 distinct regional ones that spread over the continent each staking out mutually exclusive territory. In American Nations, Colin Woodard leads us on a journey through the history of our fractured continent....

The narration for this book is splendid and I enjoyed the wonders discussed within it. There's a candid quality to it that I thoroughly appreciate. Being my first Macfarlane, I'm already eager to start The Old Ways next.

Loved this book for its deep dive into the history of trans folx in the United States. It's a wonderful asset for those transitioning and for those that wish to know more about the struggle for transgender rights. The narration was exceptional! The section on terms before the historical chapters helps guide the listener. Glad to have read this book!

Historia
A Queer History of the United States abounds with startling examples of unknown or often ignored aspects of American history - the ineffectiveness of sodomy laws in the colonies, the impact of new technologies on LGBT life in the 19th century, and how rock music and popular culture were, in large part, responsible for the devastating backlash against gay rights in the late 1970s. Bronski documents how, over centuries, various incarnations of social purity movements have consistently attempted to regulate all sexuality, including fantasies, masturbation, and queer sex.

It's rare that a book fulfills the expectations that a reader has for it. At the epilogue, I found myself wanting more information. This was informative while also remaining concise. The reader has a voice that expresses the content in a way that keeps the listeners interest. 6 stars!

Historia
When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms. But mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems. Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave.
