Historia
Miranda July’s second novel confirms the brilliance of her unique approach to fiction. With July’s wry voice, perfect comic timing, unabashed curiosity about human intimacy, and palpable delight in pushing boundaries, All Fours tells the story of one woman’s quest for a new kind of freedom. Part absurd entertainment, part tender reinvention of the sexual, romantic, and domestic life of a forty-five-year-old female artist, All Fours transcends expectation while excavating our beliefs about life lived as a woman.

Please stop!

Funny how this book and the terrible movie Baby Girl are so similar - older woman falls for younger man and it consumes her life. I kept waiting for some sort of ‘ah ha’ moment but it never arrived. And the story was so forced and disjointed. I wish I had skipped this one.

Interesting story but so over the top dramatic it was painful to finish. Almost everything that happens is expected and felt like it was written to be a tearjerker movie. Sorry I had to read this for book club.

CJ Box Needs to Move Outside the Box
Revisado: 03-31-23
Yawn, what a sleeper...Joe finds a dead body, there are poachers, Missy shows up, Missy's had another facelift, Nate saves Joe's life at the last minute, the sheriff is lazy, someone is corrupt, the FBI is involved....come on after 20+ books can't we have a little more creativity here? There's a new character, but like a sitcom that lasted way too long, he cannot save the series.
Plus this book attempts to address some timely topics but falls way short of even sparking a meaningful conversation. In fact, since I live in CA, on the coast, I'm finding his writing downright offensive at times. I've been a loyal Joe Pickett fan for years, but it's time to hang up my Stetson and move on.

Revisado: 03-31-23
What a sleeper - Joe finds a dead body, there are poachers, Missy shows up, Missy's had another facelift, there are snowstorms, Nate saves Joe's life at the last minute, Marybeth does some sleuthing but overall is poorly represented, the sheriff is lazy, someone is corrupt, the FBI shows up and to add some spice there's a Chinese spy....come on after 20+ books can't we have a little more creativity here? CJ Box must have a poor opinion of his readers if he thinks this lazy formulaic type of writing is going to keep us turning the pages. Oh, and there's a new character, but like a sitcom that lasted way too long, he cannot save the series.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I can't wait for more books from this author. Every character was meaningful, relatable, and eventually beloved. It's been a rough summer for me, and this book was just what the doctor ordered.

Entertaining and fun book, but hard to believe it's 100% all true. Made me feel sorry for the author and glad no one in my family has any interest in a career in entertainment.

Long winded and repetitive
Revisado: 07-16-22
I couldn't wait for this book to end. Lots of repetitive information and nearly exact sentences made it painful to make it through some chapters. I little editing could have moved things along and provided a better story line. Very unsatisfactory character development and many unanswered questions about peoples lives. Overall wish I had skipped it.

Wasted my time
Revisado: 06-13-21
I kept waiting for this book to live up to all the hype but it never did. Waste of a credit. The story line was ridiculous, confusing and the narrators voice was grating. Almost felt like a teen-type novel. Wish I had returned it.

High Hopes That Left Me Feeling Cheated
Revisado: 06-13-20
I had read about this book in the LA Times and had high expectations. It was interesting and engaging with complex characters and interweaving plots, but it ended so suddenly I thought it was an error. I felt like I had wasted my time reading it. I really don't understand how the book could have ended when it did. I'll be returning it for a return credit.

Historia
In the late summer of 1943, when Italy broke with the Germans and joined the Allies after suffering catastrophic military losses, an Italian Resistance was born. Four young Piedmontese women - Ada, Frida, Silvia and Bianca - living secretly in the mountains surrounding Turin, risked their lives to overthrow Italy’s authoritarian government. They were among the thousands of Italians who joined the Partisan effort to help the Allies liberate their country from the German invaders and their Fascist collaborators.

Long Winded and Drawn Out
Revisado: 02-10-20
I had great hopes after the WSJ review, but could not finish the book. If WWII info is your thing, you'll love it, but I was really interested in the story of the women and after hours and hours there still was so little about them. I do love history, but it's hard to listen to in such a dry format.
