Annals of the Nameless Dwarf reminds me a lot of Elric of Melnibone. A tragic hero that makes his way while the world changes all around him. The stories are great, the cast of revolving side characters are wonderful and used to great effect. The new narration is done really well, with multiple voices and little embellishments that set the scenes vividly. Start with the omnibus books you will not be disappointed.

I’ve really enjoyed this series. The characters are great. Narration is a 5 out of 5. Get this, beyond worth it for 1 credit. My only problem is the way these have been released.

The Romance Killed It

If you like tweenager style romances ala Twilight you might like this. Just about every 4th line was HB or the girl thinking longingly of each other and the romance they once shared. It really blew the immersion. I dont care if you want to make HB seem more relatably human by giving him a love interest, just dont do it so hamfistedly juvenile. What could have been the start of a great set of novels instead devolved into HB listening to her breath, and pontificating over how close they were.

Thought I’d leave my review on book 3 instead of one on each book. I wasn’t super sure what I would be getting from this series. I was a little nervous in book one as there were some glaring editorial issues. As I find with most series the first books can be the weakest until an author hits their stride. No doubt that happened here, by the end of book one the world is being fleshed out rather nicely. There is a real feel of comradeship between the characters. This reads as almost an homage to old style adventure style pulp stories, similar to a Burroughs book. Where each chapter you learn something new about the environment or characters. I really, really enjoyed all three books and will definitely be getting number 4 when it releases next week.

I went into this thinking I was getting something similar to Hell Divers, instead I got a story that was more about unresolved family issues. Those were scarier than the monsters. Call your brother and tell him you love him. Narration was so-so, there were parts where you could tell it was stopped and started. Just not for me.

This is a pretty funny cool story. Best line in a book ever, "Seriously? Well same as before, Im Dave and these are all the F***s I don't really give about who you are" Dave kind of reminds me of Sandman Slim. If you enjoy those stories, chances are you will like this one.
