When you hate all the characters…

Ok, the only reason I could get through this was bc it was included in my membership and I’m currently out of credits. And honestly some of the storyline was interesting….. but the characters were so unlikeable. Practically zero redeeming qualities. So hard to figure out who is actually a protagonist vs an antagonist bc you just want to bitch slap them all. And the storyline wasn’t very cohesive…. It read more like a bunch of short stories slapped together Willy Nilly…. Like even when they finally killed one of the true bad guys that you could really tell was an antagonist, it just kind of …. Happened. No lead up, just another short story slapped on the heels of the previous one. I listened to it at double speed to get through as fast as possible. Poor imitation of the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Go listen to that series if you want the same type of story and paranormal world, but much better written.

Sweet Story

I would recommend just borrowing this book from the library rather than buying it on audible as it is so short. But a sweet inventive story and performed well.

Most of her other books have been great. But I thought the inner dialogues of these characters would drive me insane. Too much repetition.

Too graphic for teens

Excellent in every way, except it didn’t need to be so graphic with its language and sex scenes. That distracted from the story. completely unnecessary. The pacing and the story would have stood on its own without it.

Just when you think the protagonists will make progress they’re beset with obstacles…. AGAIN. Didn’t love the pacing of the two ‘Darkness’ books.

This is one of my absolute favorite books! But I HATE the way it is performed. She completely ruins Mortain’s voice and turns him into a whiny child. I didn’t realize there was a different audio version until I had already bought this one. BUY THE OTHER ONE!!!!

I had my doubts…. But that was unexpectedly beautiful

I read an article before I got this on audible: ‘the ‘spare,’ it’s just good literature.’

Truth.

The pacing, the shocking details, the authenticity, the heartbreak…… you could feel Harry’s despair, his joy, his frustration, his jubilation, his loneliness. And you’re like, oh my gosh….. this makes so much sense. I can relate to this.

And you’re also like….. wth, that is so much alcohol consumption…. Chocolate psychedelic mushrooms? What is this. Frost bitten penis? What the hell is THIS?!

But you can’t help but believe him. If he’s going to tell you about talking toilets while high, then why would he lie about his brother picking physical fights?

The most shocking thing though that I came away with: What the hell is wrong with Americans? And why does the royal family seem to look down on and despise us?

That was shocking. And it’s shocking to me that it isn’t being mentioned more in the press. We already knew there were racists in the royal family and especially the British press. Duh, it’s been blasting out of their asses now since Meghan came on the scene……

But my goodness, the contempt for Americans …..that was unexpected. We’re too happy, we’re too loud, and we hug too much.

Well, then, right back at ya….. we don’t like you either after this, you snobbish prick (read: Prince William).
