although I loved the stories. this book seemed to switch around everything that had come before and then tie everything up in neat little bows. that was a little disappointing but again, the story was good. the adventure was good. it's just that all of the sudden the main character seem to understand everything and know everything. I know that was because of the fallac, but it seemed a little too good to be true. and the ending, after all the buildup, seemed quite anti-climactic. so this wasn't my favorite book in the series. if you like. happy tidy endings you'll like this one!

Zamira comes into her power

our heroin finally learns her full bloodline. and she gets some of what she wants. but her to-do list grows longer and longer and far more dangerous. I liked the story. there was two times in it that I felt that the character did not stick to the behavior that I would have expected from her. maybe you can find them. however, I would recommend this book. it is fast-paced, seasoned with danger and humor and some romance. Love does conquer all

I'm addicted

I am addicted to the desert curse series. at first I thought it was a little bit silly, a little bit flighty and the heroin was kind of a moron because she kept getting into trouble and didn't seem to think things through. but I very much warmed up to her and the story itself as it keeps unveiling more and more layers. congratulations, Shannon mayer, You've hooked one more fan

middle-aged women unite !

I really like this series, for the most part. The fact that it's a 40-year-old woman is awesome! I'm so tired of all the heroines being 20. this is not exactly literature however and could have used a bit of a better editor. but for entertainment and heart and grit and humor, it gets a good rating from me. Bree O'Reilly starts a new life. I like the way that she sweats and groans and hates stairs! but she does go a little bit overboard on the old lady schtick . and I mean come on how many men does she have to have fallen love with her? that's a little nutty. but she has heart! she is a beloved character and well written as far as it goes. she mostly flies by the seat of her pants and nothing is clear and gets into the kind of trouble that if only characters would communicate with each other, all the information they know: wouldn't happen. overall, it's a good series and I recommend it

horrible, horrible narrator!

The story was rushed and although it was somewhat in keeping with the series, it was almost an afterthought. I loved the other books but this one not so much. and honestly that horrible southern accent was like fingernails on a chalkboard! I could hardly listen to it. it was an hour long and it took me three different sessions just because I couldn't stand to hear the man's voice. now for the story again it was rushed. it basically showed us one day. it could have included a lot more history about Robert and Evangeline but it didn't. I was pretty disappointed in this one.

Excellent and unexpected

When I first started listening to this book I put it down. The first chapter or two were not that riveting. however, I'm glad I went back to it because the rest of the book was enchanting. I really didn't expect the ending, but it was well done. supernatural element to the story which makes it all the better. I don't want to give anything away, but if you like Victorian era fiction with a little bit of an edge and a taste of the supernatural, this is for you.

old fashioned gothic romance

what I liked about this book as well as Victoria holt,s other novels is that the heroines are strong and capable without being overbearing. I love the setting, in a huge mansion. of course. I first read Victoria Holt over 40 years ago and I still enjoy her work. it is a touch old fashioned and I'm not sure that young readers would appreciate it. But I am in my 50s and I most definitely enjoyed the story, and the creative and delicate unfolding of it.

phenomenal women's story!

I'm a Stephen King fan. But this, I think is one of the best books he has written and something I definitely resonate with. with. it talks about women and the threat that they face every day from men. it brings it all out into the open in the setting of a woman's prison. I cannot recommend this book enough! The strong female characters are plentiful, and they get stronger when there are no men around. I feel this book deeply and I understand the decisions that these women made. there is a supernatural element, which I think only makes it better.

suspenseful is an understatement

this author has a way of unfolding the events as they happen, yet concealing just enough to throw you off the trail. I listen to this book over the course of 2 days because I couldn't put it down. I did figure out the ending before it got there, but not long before. I would definitely recommend this book.

I like it so far.

it's a decent story. it keeps your attention fairly well, although I wouldn't exactly call it riveting. if you're in the mood for entertainment, that's not too deep or too brain involving this is a good one. I kind of sucks. $1.99 for each episode is a little steep and I'm not sure how many episodes there are. I've listened to the first three.
