I have enjoyed many of Crhisti Caldwell's books, but found this one annoying. Lady McQuoid is so annoying I am debating whether I should waste my time to continue listening. As it is, I am yelling back at the recording asking the woman to "Shut UP," which is exceedingly rude but definitely warranted. NO ONE can be this clueless.

For a character who is interested in "seeing some of the world," she is disrespectful of thoughts, beliefs, and, yes, supersitions of those who are different than she. Frustrating.

Warmth and Kindness

Excellent story. Rochelle Alers' characters are well defined and truly refined ... a great read. I love the warmth and kindness of these characters. In addition to telling a great story, the narrator did a pretty good job varying voices for the many characters. My only frustration with the performance was the distracting mispronunciation of so many words. Example: slivered almonds as "silver almonds", orthodontics became "orthopedics" I became so distracted, I began to make a list, adding to the distraction. The producer should do a better job of catching these mistakes.

Wrap it Up!

While I enjoyed the story, which is intriguing , I HATED the ending. What happened to these characters? Is there a plan for a sequel?
\With respect to the performances, I found some of the characters lacking credibility. The matriarch of a bougie black family would be tough, but soft spoken. She would NEVER have called out either Karen or Sydney in the manner shown in this book. I know these women. They will cut one to shreds, but NEVER in public or to their faces. Refined, dignified and above it all ... those are the ladies I know. The ruthlessness is, however spot on!
Most importantly, Mr. Weber has to finish this story.

Slightly longer than a fable, this one is a bit lame for Gemma Halliday who generally leaves me chuckling. Summed up: too short, too predictable, not worth $3.99.

Distracted by Mispronunciation

What did you like best about Sweet Deception? What did you like least?

I stumbled upon the Eaton series. I do like serials as they can give a reader an opportunity to learn more about characters (or, in this case, a family).

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

A little unrealistic, but still entertaining.

What didn’t you like about Erica Love’s performance?

Although animated and great voices for the characters, Ms. Love mispronounced quite a number of words and mixed up the genders for personal pronouns (saying "he" when "she" was appropriate and vice versa). Occasional mispronounced words can be overlooked, but I found the frequency distracting. This was the second audio book narrated by Ms. Love that I have experienced this same problem.

Do you think Sweet Deception needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I know there are more about the Eatons. I will read them.

Horrible!!!!

As an Austen fan, I have read every variation on Jane's novels I can find. This ridiculous "book" is just awful. I found absolutely ZERO merit in it. It is an embarrassment to its author, an assault on Jane's timeless work and an insult to my intelligence. If I could, I would rate it ZERO stars out of five.
