Lost the plot
Revisado: 01-06-25
For me this series is going downhill. It has jumped the shark and is trying to capture that magic again by going bigger, darker and more super natural. Which is falling flat and diluting what made the original set of books good.

Historia
A weary Adrian Ring continues his dangerous push to find the missing members of the mythical second Trinity—saviors of mankind from the judgment of the undead. He’s fought those monsters for years now, facing off against unthinkable threats and challenges to his own safety and sanity, and thus far, he’s prevailed. Others around him haven’t been so lucky, but that seems to be his curse. Now, as he and his precious friends foray north into the heart of England to find Hal Parker’s dad and search for survivors, they will encounter threats they’ve never dealt with before.

Not as good as the previous books
Revisado: 09-24-24
This book is just meh. For one the addition of more supernatural elements dilutes the story. It makes the previous books feel disjointed and that the previous rules don’t apply. Sometimes less is more. I also don’t find Tommy to be an engaging character. Not enough time is spent with him to establish a connection or sympathy. Also Adrian is starting to wear a little thin. He hasn’t grown since he set out on his journey, honestly I want to hear from the other trinity, Other European survivors. That story is more interesting and Adrian should be falling into the background while the new Trinity rises.

A fitting end….maybe
Revisado: 09-16-24
Ok the title is bait, the story continues. The religion aspect of this series is a little under explored. The first couple of books was just a fun romp, the religious/philosophical aspects added for depth are interesting if not as deeply explored as they should or could be. For someone who’s read a lot of morale philosophy and many major religious texts, I found the Michelle character distinctly uninteresting and uninspiring. With her background, I feel she’d ask faaaaaar more questions. Furthermore the criticism of why humanity is being judged at that point is soft. It’s been over a hundred years since we killed god even in the books timeline. I wish the why would have been explored more, to me the Michelle character would have been good for this. It would have added depth and made the judgment and what needs doing for redemption more impactful and clear. Overall a good story and still fun but treading into philosophy/religion has left a hole in the plot.
*SPOILERS I finished the series and the questions are never truly addressed so be warned

The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived. Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal".

Steal of a deal
Revisado: 09-16-24
This is a really interesting concept and is fairly well executed. May not be everyone’s cup of tea but I enjoyed it. It lacks the far right politics that has infested post apocalyptic fiction as well. That’s not to say it isn’t on the conservative side, but it stays reasonable and understandable as compared to a lot of its contemporaries which have gone into right wing lunacy. Some of the side stories are less than stellar and while flushing out the narrative, are not as interesting or as well written. The plot outcomes are a little predictable and formulaic. However like a good sitcom, that is exactly what you want. This is a great, turn your brain off and enjoy the ride type story. It’s fun, enjoyable and entertaining that’s all you want from it.

Needs a good editor
Revisado: 03-08-24
This book has potential. I can see the good book inside of the one that was written. The whole opening chapter doesn’t matter. It was pointless, would have made more sense if in Afghanistan the MC had encountered zombies or found the lab. The outbreak starts off as a slow burn which is interesting. However the ignorance of the situation goes on for far too long. This takes place at a time social media exists. News would have spread, quickly. The villain is overly done as well, he is comically bad. Also would have been discharged for participating in and affair but that’s another issue. Over all if this book was tighter, more focused it would be better. It can’t decide if it wants to be a tight zombie thriller or survivalist porn. It does neither well

Clearly a bridge book to continue the series
Revisado: 01-30-24
!Warning spoilers!
This is the weakest book in the series. At least the filler books seem to be ending as it is clear that this book is a bridge to the next arch. What makes this book the weakest is that Nemesis the big bad villain of the last several books begins to act so dumb and the justification is fairly weak. The author hints and the existential crisis faced by the villain but never dwells too long on it and doesn’t explore it deeply enough to make it impactful. Also the romantic subplot and attempt to humanize the villain was dumb, waste of text and the “payoff” wasn’t worth it. The “big” reveal was so obvious I guessed it with in the first chapter.
*Spoiler* Nemesis causes the very thing he fought to prevent. While the plot of this book is paper thin it was well written and sets up the series to do new a cool things. I just wish the author wasn’t so focused on the setup for the next arch and took the time to develop this actual story.

Political thriller that is not good
Revisado: 01-02-24
This book is a political thriller masquerading as military Sci-Fi. Nor is a good political thriller. The plot is see through and has so much contrivances that keep the main character from being put up against a wall. This is a meh book at best.

Pale imitation but still a good effort
Revisado: 09-27-23
The author admits that this book was inspired by world war z. Overall it’s not bad but it lacks a few things. First WWZ was organized by sections, this book is not. This kind of gives it a disjointed feel. Second, the voice acting isn’t as great. I mean WWZ had and all star cast so…. Third, the stories don’t feel fleshed out and coherent. This goes back to the over arching narrative that WWZ weaves by how it is organized. This story doesn’t do that, it doesn’t build the same way. It tends to jump around more. It feels like it you better organized and punched up the stories it would be much better. This makes us a pale competitor to WWZ but worth a read.

Jake Taylor was a New Hampshire farm boy who wanted nothing more than to marry his girlfriend, work on the farm, and maybe one day write a great novel. But mankind was fighting the alien Tegeri and their bio-mechanical cyborg soldiers, and UN Central needed men…men to go to war on hostile worlds far from home. Jake wasn't given a choice, not a real one. He found himself torn from home and family, conscripted for life and shipped to the planet Erastus to take his place in the battle lines, never to return.

This world isn’t believable
Revisado: 01-11-22
The story is ok. The narration is generally good, but the accents and dying characters need work. The biggest issue is from and immersion aspect this story doesn’t work. The UN world government is too evil to exist. It’s something out of a tin foil hat, Qanon subscribing wet dream. What’s worse is that the developing world “drives” this government’s formation. It’s a bit of joke and kills the story. Would have better to go with ineptitude or a more plausible reason for a lot of the justifications for the war policy. Sorry but this system would have folded in reality after 6 months.

Disappointing conclusion to and arch
Revisado: 01-21-21
I really like this series. I was disappointed with this book in particular. I get it they had to wrap up the Republic war arch but this feels a bit lazy and contrived.
Spoilers
First I have some plot point issues. One being how do you replace a royal guard detachment and no one, mean no one notices. Also how do intercept said detachment in space based on the physics of the book. Second how do they not notice the ship that kidnapped the Admiral jump. We know from the other part of this book that you can’t hide jump flares. So it would be obvious when the ship used for extraction jumps. It’s dumb and a huge plot inconsistency.
