Historia
In the best-selling tradition of Bill Bryson and Tony Horwitz, Rinker Buck's The Oregon Trail is a major work of participatory history: an epic account of traveling the entire 2,000-mile length of the Oregon Trail the old-fashioned way, in a covered wagon with a team of mules - which hasn't been done in a century - that also tells the rich history of the trail, the people who made the migration, and its significance to the country.

giddy up team
Revisado: 01-03-17
What did you love best about The Oregon Trail?
One of most inspiring and fascinating book I'd read in awhile. Witty, funny, informative, and inspiring. The authors background story about his father added depth to the book (I personally can related to and it brought me to tear). The historical background (with a right dose of social comment) is appropriate and insightful. All around, a wonderful read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Oregon Trail?
Rinker chasing the mules with a Walmart moccasin.
What does Rinker Buck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
At the end, there was an interview of the Brothers. That was a plus
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Definitely a great idea... The book is highly visual.... A documentary with actual image would be grand...Also, some of the hero of the story should be recognized for their contribution to preserve this great natural treasure.
Any additional comments?
I was some what lost with the technical data/terminology of the wagon and ranger life style.

Historia
The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Retirement lost and saved
Revisado: 06-22-12
I had been aggressively save for my retirement in my late 20s. Experimenting with several way to improve the portfolio with not so successful result, now in my 40s, I certainly can related to many idea and follies the author had mentioned in his book.
I found this book to be empirical, practical, and informative. Strongly recommended for anyone who serious about saving for retirement,

Here is the New York Times and international best seller, revised and expanded with a new afterword. With his customary lucidity, insight, and imagination, he draws on lessons from the two great power shifts of the past 500 years - the rise of the Western world and the rise of the United States - to tell us what we can expect from the third shift, the rise of the rest.

Historia
This provocative book introduces a brand-new view of technology. It suggests that technology as a whole is not a jumble of wires and metal but a living, evolving organism that has its own unconscious needs and tendencies. Kevin Kelly looks out through the eyes of this global technological system to discover "what it wants." He uses vivid examples from the past to trace technology's long course and then follows a dozen trajectories of technology into the near future to project where technology is headed.

Very insightful
Revisado: 10-04-11
As an Asian-American with Chinese heritage, I surely touched by this insightful "sea-people" author. He had expertly exposed the spyche of the Asian race. Our oppressive desire to be respected/expressive is constantly tampered by the practical reality of external constrains. IE, as an Asian in America or as a Chinese/Vietnamese in a communist regime. Well done... Thank you.
In audio format, however, it is hard to visually related to the mentioned locality/demographically. Hope your written book include some of that.Spell checkResume Words: 84 | Characters: 521

Historia
In The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker, one of the world's leading experts on language and the mind, explores the idea of human nature and its moral, emotional, and political colorings. With characteristic wit, lucidity, and insight, Pinker argues that the dogma that the mind has no innate traits, denies our common humanity and our individual preferences, replaces objective analyses of social problems with feel-good slogans, and distorts our understanding of politics, violence, parenting, and the arts.

The Primer of Human understanding
Revisado: 07-12-11
This is one of the most important book that had read.... I read many....
With a broad spectrum of topic, the author systematically deconstructed the force behind human and social behavior that shape our society today. Truly is a classic...
The Emily Dickinson verse, at the end, is an exquisite touch.
If there ever be a missing point in the book, it would be a discussion of modern society self-destructive/unsustainable path.
