Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

Historia
From the moment Teddy Roosevelt's outrageous and charming teenage daughter strode into the White House—carrying a snake and dangling a cigarette—the outspoken Alice began to put her imprint on the whole of the twentieth-century political scene. Her barbed tongue was as infamous as her scandalous personal life, but whenever she talked, powerful people listened, and she reigned for eight decades as the social doyenne in a town where socializing was state business.

Thank you for sharing your experience of your migration from El Salvador to USA when you were nine years old. The relatives you left behind (grandmother and grandfather) to join your mother and father in Los Angeles. The expression of all your feelings throughout the trip made this a migration of sorts for me. You shared your deep feelings for others as well as all the descriptions of relationships, smells, fears and joy make this a book one I will recommend as well as remember forever.

Historia
On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought the presidency as the conflict over slavery was leading inexorably to secession and civil war.

What a marvelous book you have written. I will remember this forever. I was drawn to tears so many times at the portrayal of President Lincoln; his words and character. I appreciate that you told of his humanity as well as those who surrounded him. My son was born on February 12. I hope he reads this book.

Historia
To his customers and neighbors on 125th street, Ray Carney is an upstanding salesman of reasonably priced furniture, making a decent life for himself and his family. He and his wife Elizabeth are expecting their second child, and if her parents on Striver's Row don't approve of him or their cramped apartment across from the subway tracks, it's still home. Few people know he descends from a line of uptown hoods and crooks, and that his façade of normalcy has more than a few cracks in it. Cracks that are getting bigger all the time.

I loved this book! I am tempted to read it again now. The Norwegian epic is long but full. The narrator does a superb job with the numerous characters. The author draws characters, relationships and scenes ingeniously with words. Reading this has been a RICH experience..
