Historia
In poyums, Len Pennie has created a collection that is as approachable as it is affecting; whether she's writing letters to her younger self, advocating for women's rights or adapting fairy tales to process an abusive relationship, Len's voice is bold, unashamedly frank and unmistakeably hers. She consciously fuses Scots into her poetry, cleverly ensuring that it is accessible to speakers of both languages.

loved thes poyums in the Scots language. Len is an absolute wordsmith to be able to turn ugly pain into literary beauty without sounding bitter and hateful.

too passive
Revisado: 11-05-19
Couldn't make it past chapter 3. the writing is almost all in passive voice, with too much reliance on tired metaphors and over explanation of common ideas. also the narrator didn't even vaguely attempt the accents that were indicated by the dialog.

Worthy revision
Revisado: 01-26-19
The original version of this book is what made me fall in love with Chuck Palahniuk in the first place. The remix version does definitely add enough to be a different experience, and while the audio version is fun, I think I'd rather have picked up the print version considering the book's choose your own adventure style layout with other textual oddities. Still, even listening to it straight through without doing the requested jumping was a wonderful experience, but perhaps good only because I remembered the story from the first time around. New readers of this book may want to pick up the print copy first.

Historia
The Vikings maintain their grip on our imagination, but their image is too often distorted by medieval and modern myth. It is true that they pillaged, looted, and enslaved. But they also settled peacefully and developed a vast trading network. They traveled far from their homelands in swift and sturdy ships, not only to raid, but also to explore. Despite their fearsome reputation, the Vikings didn’t wear horned helmets, and even the infamous berserkers were far from invincible.

a solid history of the Viking era

This book provides a great background on the Viking era. It is a bit dry, but overall worth the listen if you're interested in Viking age culture and society.

Revisado: 12-03-17
This book didn't have much to offer. I expected to learn more about dog psychology but little in it was really all that new. the book read more like a memorial to the author's dog than anything of major importance. also the narrator sounded like siri, which made the experience worse.

this book could easily convey its entire content in about a third of the time. I like long books and long running series, but this installment really dragged into the doldrums. if I were reading the text instead of listening to the book, I would have put it down and probably never finished.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

So much better when read by the author
Revisado: 08-15-13
What did you love best about The Ocean at the End of the Lane?
Gaiman's storytelling has always been top notch, and this novel balances brilliantly the ephemeral nature of memory with the passage of time, and hearing the whole thing rendered by Gaiman's voice just added to the beauty of the whole piece. This is the first audio book I listened to more than once, and I can see myself playing this one again in a few years.

Best Free book ever
Revisado: 08-15-13
Would you consider the audio edition of METAtropolis to be better than the print version?
Definitely. The voice acting here is top notch, and though I suspect Scalzi probably talks a bit in text format to set up each novella, it was great to hear his actual voice on the setup.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
The narrators seemed to be catered towards the tone of each novella--different one for each, and the opening novella, especially, just blew me away with narration.
Any additional comments?
This book came up as a freebie for the Audible Christmas in July sale. I never would have known about it otherwise, but man, after hearing these stories, I want to follow all of the authors contained within. Great stuff, and excellent experiment in worldbuilding.
