Story idea was excellent. I felt the writing was subpar or came across as the writer in the early stage of his craft.

Why do authors have to ruin good books
Revisado: 12-14-21
In our day political opinions are crammed into every aspect of life. I’m forced to hear about everyone’s outrage, how they are offended and how everyone who disagrees with their view is an enemy of someone’s rights and a hater.
I turn to books as a way to escape it for a moment. I was really enjoying this book until the author went way out of the way to unnecessarily insert his political bias.
Left or right, I don’t care. You have the right to express your opinion. However, don’t slip it into a novel and ask me to pay for the privilege of being preached to.

Enjoyable as Always - Let me escape politics
Revisado: 04-26-19
I have enjoyed every Longmire series book I have listened to, which is quite a few. This one was no exception. My one complaint about this book is a very small and passing jab at Fox News as a source of conspiracy theories. I have no vested interest in defending Fox News. However, with the political craziness that is our culture today, and it becoming harder and harder to escape it even for a few moments, I wish authors of novels like the Longmire series would set their politics aside and let me enjoy a brief respite from it all. This is not a novel about political intrigue, but of personal tragedy in the lives of some of the characters.
As I said, the swipe is a small and passing one. Nevertheless, whether it be a Dem or Rep politician, or Fox or MSNBC, I just want to enjoy a good book without having to think about politics for a few moments of my life.
Other than that - great book and great performance.

Historia
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

Hard to Believe Premise - Good Read Nonetheles
Revisado: 02-26-17
What made the experience of listening to Hell Divers the most enjoyable?
It was a unique approach to an "end of the world" story. It did have an interesting twist at the end. But I gave the story three stars because for me, the premise of the book is hard to believe. (See additional comments) But, if you can get past that I think it is a good read - not great, but good.
RC Bray, naturally, did a great job with the narration.
What did you like best about this story?
Unique take on the old story line of "humanity struggles to survive against impossible odds."
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"They Dive So Humanity Survives" of course. (You have to read the book)
Any additional comments?
It is a good read overall with a good turn or two. However, to enjoy the book you do have to get past what I consider an unbelievable premise, which is that humanity has survived the contamination of the earth by living in helium airships. That is not the most unbelievable part. The hardest part to get my head around is that these man made mechanical airships, carrying over 500 hundred of people, have been continuously in the air for over 250 years. I guess it is technically possible that such a ship could survive continuous operation for 250 years, but it does not seem very probable.

Reacher Might Be Growing on Me
Revisado: 10-23-15
What did you love best about Without Fail?
Good read, but "Love" might be a little too strong a word
Any additional comments?
I am slowly beginning to enjoy the Reacher series. To me he still seems a little too over the top for a man with the background the book assigns to him. In addition, the motive behind the actions of the bad guys is a hard to believe. I realize that there are some crazy people in this world, but I would have thought the author could have come up with a much more important or series motive for his villains, given their actions. With all that in mind, and if ignore these things, it is not a bad read.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Believable??? But a Good Read Anyway
Revisado: 10-23-15
What made the experience of listening to The Martian the most enjoyable?
Watney's sense of humor and "can-do" attitude.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Watney's humor and approach to his insane predicament definitely made me laugh at times.
Any additional comments?
Admittedly, I do not keep up with the cutting edge of what is going on in space travel and exploration. So, I am not sure how believable some aspects of the book are. I have my doubts. Yet, books do not always have to match up with what is believable in real life to be a good read. This one, believable or not, is a good read.

Juvenile Writing
Revisado: 10-23-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A complete rewrite
What could Jeffery Deaver have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I am not usually a tough critic. I don't listen to books for the purpose of writing literary reviews. I just like to listen to good story. So, I can overlook a lot when I listen if the story is good.
However, I found the author to be almost juvenile in his writing. For example, the humor of the characters was ridiculously silly and corny. For people in a job as serious and deadly as they supposedly were, the level of their humor was unbelievable. The characters needed to have a sense of humor to make them real but something above 7th grade would have been good.
What didn’t you like about Alfred Molina and full cast ’s performance?
Nothing about the performance helped to make up for the poor writing.
Any additional comments?
I realize that you can only do so much in a book this short. But it reads more like a comic book than a short story. Unless you are in to comic book stories - pass on this one

Not the Best Longmire Story But Still a Good One
Revisado: 10-23-15
What did you love best about Kindness Goes Unpunished?
If you are a Longmire fan this book gives you some of the background on, and a better understanding of Walt's daughter Cady. It also fills in some information on Vic and her family.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
He is not my favorite narrator, but he does a good job in my opinion with the Longmire series.
Any additional comments?
In my opinion, this is not the best of the Longmire books, yet a good read if you are a fan. If you are new to Longmire, I would not recommend this book as your first listen.

Historia
Ten years ago, Craig Johnson wrote his first short story, the Hillerman Award-winning "Old Indian Trick". This was one of the earliest appearances of the sheriff who would go on to star in Johnson’s best-selling, award-winning novels and the A&E hit series Longmire. Each Christmas Eve thereafter, fans rejoiced when Johnson sent out a new short story featuring an episode in Walt’s life that doesn’t appear in the novels; over the years, many have asked why they can’t buy the stories in book form.

Good Read - Lots of Bodies
Revisado: 01-10-15
Any additional comments?
The story definitely has a good twist and I enjoyed it. I will read another Reacher book. I did however find it a little hard to believe that Reacher and a small team of FBI agents working "off book" could leave a trail of bodies in their wake as they do in this book and not be discovered. Nevertheless, it was a good read.
