Historia
In the 1970s, the ultimate trip for any backpacker was the storied “Hippie Trail” from Istanbul to Kathmandu. A 23-year old Rick Steves made the trek, and like a travel writer in training, he documented everything along the way: jumping off a moving train, making friends in Tehran, getting lost in Lahore, getting high for the first time in Herat, battling leeches in Pokhara, and much more. The experience ignited his love of travel and forever broadened his perspective on the world.

Historia
With the world facing divisive events and movements like the rise of nationalism, Trump, Brexit, Erdogan, and more, there's never been a more important time to travel. Rick believes the risks of travel are widely exaggerated, and that fear is for people who don't get out much. After years of living out of a suitcase, he still marvels at how different cultures may find different truths to be self-evident. By sharing his experiences from Europe, Central America, Asia, and the Middle East, Rick shows how we can learn more about own country by viewing it from afar.

Extremely thought provoking
Revisado: 03-20-25
This book was thoroughly enjoyable. His explanations of the origins political turmoil — San Salvador, Iran and the Holy Land — gave me much better insight. I have always felt that Rick is an extremely talented storyteller, and this is one of the best examples that I can think of his talent.

Historia
Carl Hiaasen doesn't like the Walt Disney Company. A native of Florida, Hiaasen comes by his dislike for Disney honestly. He has witnessed the relentless success of the Disney machine firsthand with the development of Disney World and other properties around Orlando. In Team Rodent, Hiaasen paints a witty and sarcastic portrait of a company that can control the press, manipulate local governments, and—because it's Disney—get away with it. Entertaining and enlightening, the book takes a critical view of the Disney corporate giant, tracing its destructive impact.

Historia
Newly elected, Jack Ryan has found that being President is not easy: domestic pitfalls await him at every turn; there's a revolution in Liberia; the Asian economy is going down the tubes; and now, in Moscow, someone may have tried to assassinate the chairman of the SVR - the former KGB - with a rocket-propelled grenade. Were the potential assassins political enemies, the Russian Mafia, or disaffected former KGB? Or is something far more dangerous at work here?

Fantastic story superbly read / performed
Revisado: 02-12-25
The fact that this book was written in the year 2000 is amazing as both the plot and underlying political themes are so relevant in 2025. Performance added to my enjoyment of this book. I thought I had read everything that Tom Clancy had ever written and was surprised that somehow I had overlooked this book. It was well worth the wait. Excellent, highly recommended.

Stephen E. D-Day is above all the epic story of men at the most demanding moment of their existence, when the horrors, complexities and triumphs of life are laid bare and courage and heroism come to the fore.

Having read the hardcopy book several times previously I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook. The individual stories of heroism and courage really came out. The narrator was superb. Well paced, good inflection when needed. I really enjoyed it.

Amazing story of a true hero
Revisado: 08-21-24
Superbly written, fast paced. Billy Waugh recounts his heroic service to our country in a very matter of fact style which made this book even more enjoyable. Narration by Dave Barrett was by far the best I have heard, it was like sitting around a campfire with Billy Waugh himself. Thank you Billy (posthumously) for 50 years of service and sacrifice!

After reading this masterpiece, I will look at cathedrals with even more awe
Revisado: 04-11-24
The detailed descriptions of the process, skills and determination of the people that designed and built these masterpieces was fascinating and held my attention throughout. The building process set into the context of social and political turmoil was fascinating and added so much to my appreciation of these buildings. The descriptions of the violence and carnage was very vivid and unsettling, but that what violence should be… disturbing. Not gratuitous, added to my appreciation of this book. Bravo
