I hope this isn’t another Pulitzer
Revisado: 12-21-20
Don’t know how many Stars to rate this. Stuck with it , am currently at chapter 119. Have a couple of more to go., Can’t always follow which is necessary to liking it, don’t know what to blame writer or reader or me. I am guilty of doing hand work while listening. Was considering a redo but it’s over 12 hrs and at 80 and don’t want to waste time. So maybe a sample try ? which I need to do before I click on buy

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

May need Time to Digest
Revisado: 08-26-20
Preferred The Warmth of other Suns. Could be because my Husbands family migrated from Mississippi to Illinois in the early 20th Century and regret I never had the opportunity for him to share his experience with me. Have always felt that to leave Home and go to a unfamiliar place is a very brave act. And as familiar as home is , it must be a very hopeless place in order to push the Immigrant into uncharted waters.
I need to digest Cast. It is an interesting take on America’s Original Sin. . Had read much on the Holocaust , however knew nothing of the ancient India Cast System .

Historia
Perhaps the first great and truly "American" poet, Walt Whitman's writing reflected the idealism and turbulence of the mid-19th century. His poetry broke new stylistic ground with its unconventional meter and rhyme schemes, yet celebrated democratic values, the beauty of nature, and the complex variety and vitality of American life.

Historia
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Can’t Believe this won won a Pulitzer
Revisado: 12-30-19
I will no longer consider the length of a book , when attempting to get “more bang for” my credit, when purchasing a book. This was a good story with interesting characters but it was outrageously long. I should have been given a prize for sticking with it to the better end. And believe me I will not be viewing the movie. My 🎩 is off to the author’s editor.
