Disappointing conclusion to the series

Big fan of John Scalzi. This series had such huge potential but the conclusion felt empty. Almost as if he were tired of writing it. I won’t give anything away, but the ending was abrupt and left me thinking … “that’s it? Really? Where is the rest of it?”

To tidy up 3 novels in 15 minutes was harsh and felt like a betrayal.

Should have left the politics out

Liked the story overall; however, the author went to far into current US political issues. There was nothing that was brought into story or that helped develop the characters with these side trips . It had potential to be much better. Had to return the book

Like the series and the story, especially the narrator. However, the author should have spent some time in the San Francisco area. Ft Baker wasn’t a fortified location. the Bay Area, Sausalito,Nike missile battery and marine mammal center other than existing aren’t close to what was described - this comes from having lived there for 4 years.

Please do the research needed to add detail next time. Too distracting otherwise.

No, I wouldn’t listen to this again. Not sure I would go for another Sidney Sheldon book either. Characters are transparent, and the story requires you to believe that some one can change their basic nature at the flip of a switch.

This was a modern day story, dressing up modern day morales and thinking in a toga. The story it self was good and interesting but was incorrectly set in ancient Rome.

Fool me once...

I am cautiously optimistic about how this series will progress. It is a good story line; however, there are several story lines and main characters that are developed just far enough to make them interesting and then.... the people and story are dropped.

The question really is why ask us to invest our time in the characters if only to cut them out. Many allusions to bad things developing without ever giving us the information-we need to understand why or how...The last three chapters of the book were a big disappointment and left me wondering if i would want the next book. Fool me once? Do i want to waste more time on throw away characters and story lines?

Improved over the last book!

For the first several chapters it seemed like a repeat of the last two books. About 1/3 of the way through, but then the author brought in new material. My only remaining complaint is that every time you blink, someone has developed a new miraculous devastating weapon... its sometimes like a bad tv drama where you aren't given enough background or information to make the connection. The story goes from the good guys having the best tech to ... oh wait a minute... the bad guys have the best tech... almost like pulling a rabbit out of a hat

Too many repeated scenes

This was too much like the earlier books in the series. I will probably listen to the next one... the premise is great, i like the characters and the storyline .... just needs to stop repeating scenes and dialogue

Read this one in one day... not surprising since I read the first book in one day as well.
