Historia
By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

I didn't really enjoy the way she read the book. Her voice was really monotone.

Historia
For all of Emory's life she's been told who she is. In town she's the rich one—the great-great-granddaughter of the mill's founder. At school she's hot Maddie Ward's younger sister. And at home, she's the good one, her stoner older brother Joey's babysitter. Everything was turned on its head, though, when she and Joey were in the car accident that killed Candy MontClaire. The car accident that revealed just how bad Joey's drug habit was.

This could be anyone's story!
Revisado: 01-18-24
What I love about this book is the honesty of Emmy. She loves her brother more than anyone else, and even though she's always there for him, she is blind to how her codependent actions are hurting him and her as well. Joey loves her, too, but he is blind to how his addiction is hurting her as well as himself.
Their parents are well off, but their dad is not home enough, and their mom is preoccupied with trying to fix Joey while neglecting Emmy. And they are a very dysfunctional family because they don't know how to talk to each other about their on feelings. All of them are keeping their own feelings bottled up and are just focusing on Joey's problem, not realizing that this keeps them from admitting their own problems.
I love this author. Her books are so accurate about the issues she writes about. I would recommend this one to anyone who has an addict in their life or is an addict themselves.

Revisado: 09-11-23
The narrator's voice is annoying, and the story is so lame! I don't get how Judy Blume was such a bug hit back in the day. Every book of hers I read or tried to read just isn't good!

Predictable But Interesting
Revisado: 07-26-23
The narrator was fantastic! The story is sad but also predictable. I could see what was coming about halfway through. It has been years since I've read a book by Danielle Steel, but I didn't lose interest in this one. I was glad it wasn't an unrealistic romance like so many of her others. 😁

But few fans know that behind these groundbreaking features was an incredibly influential group of women who fought for respect in an often ruthless male-dominated industry and who have slipped under the radar for decades.

Awesome Story!
Revisado: 06-26-23
I loved listening to this book so much that I bought a hard copy to read it again!
It was eye-opening to learn about the crappy way women artists were treated at Disney but not surprising. I enjoyed learning about these awesome women who still went for the careers they wanted and deserved to have.
I am so glad things have changed for women, but I think there's still a long way to go in the area of equality not only in the workforce but in the way some girls and women are still being taught to think.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Loved this one!!
Revisado: 07-11-22
This author knows how to build characters that have depth. This is such a tender story of lifelong friendships, love hoped for, but lost, and love found and gained. I read this on Kindle for the first several chapters. Then I listened to the rest on Audible. I loved the narrator, too.

At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

A Lovely and Layered Story
Revisado: 07-08-22
This is a beautiful story about the loving yet complicated relationship between a brother and sister. They stick together their whole lives after their mother leaves them, their father, and the Dutch house she hates in order to serve the poor.
And listening to Tom Hanks narrate it was a real treat!
