Historia
Dorothy Carvello knows all about the music biz. She was the first female A&R executive at Atlantic Records and one of the few in the room at RCA and Columbia. Featuring never-before-heard stories about artists like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Steven Tyler, Bon Jovi, INXS, Marc Anthony, Phil Collins, and many more, this audiobook is a must-hear for anyone who has ever wondered what it's really like to be a woman in a male-dominated industry.

Fascinating study in the female perspective
Revisado: 06-06-22
I expected this book to give insight to the job of doing A&R but was more insightful about the inner dialogue of women in a male dominated workplace.

Historia
Miracle and Wonder: Conversations with Paul Simon is part memoir, part investigation, and unlike any creative portrait you’ve ever heard before. Recorded over a series of 30 hours of conversation between Simon, Gladwell, and Gladwell’s oldest friend and co-writer, journalist and Broken Record podcast co-host Bruce Headlam, the conversation flows from Simon’s music, to his childhood in Queens, NY, to his frequent collaborators including Art Garfunkel and the nature of creativity itself.

not really worth a credit as it's like a podcast.

feels a bit like a money grab of what is really a puff piece. Though enjoyable, I expected more from Simon.

Historia
An insider biography of the Black Crowes by drummer and cofounder Steve Gorman. In his first-person history of the Black Crowes, Hard To Handle - the first ever account of this great American rock band's beginning, middle, and end - Gorman makes it clear just how impossible that job was. Fortunately, Gorman tells the tale with great insight, candor, and humor. They don't make bands like the Black Crowes anymore: crazy, brilliant, self-destructive, inspiring, and, ultimately, not built to last. But, man, what a ride it was while it lasted.

a different kind of rock bio
Revisado: 03-11-21
I have never read a bio of a rock band making me less impressed with the band. It's well worth reading even if you never even heard of the band, as a study of a socially dysfunctional yet highly effective team. I don't know what the moral of the story was, maybe that happiness can only be found within you, even when rock and roll dreams come true.

Historia
East Germany only existed for a short 40 years, but in that time, the country’s secret police, the Stasi, developed a highly successful “church department” that - using persuasion rather than threats - managed to recruit an extraordinary stable of clergy spies. Pastors, professors, seminary students, and even bishops spied on colleagues, other Christians, and anyone else they could report about to their handlers in the Stasi.

Transports and spellbinds you to another era
Revisado: 10-22-19
The storytelling and accurate detail of the many characters behind events that shaped Europe are truly masterful. It is difficult to not reflect on how fast ideologies and societies can change. This is a book that will be looked back on as an invaluable resource for future generations with its first hand accounts of a part of history that few expected would ever be revealed but is now more important than ever to not be forgotten as new systems of surveillance and censorship around the world are formed.

Brave New World meets Red Dawn

The political commentary wrapped in an action packed narrative cuts like a knife. This is a work of fiction that will be reassessed and recognized by coming generations for its rare balance of cynical and uninhibited social critique with its inspiring optimism for the future.

This is a satirical take on relationship self-help books and get-rich-quick guides designed to make you laugh and to raise awareness about the complex motivations and social dynamics behind men's latent self-destructive tendencies to give up everything for a girl with a pretty smile and dimples. On the other hand, it is also a get-rich-quick guide for women on the fine art of breaking down a man's defenses to max out his credit cards and liquidate his whole net worth.

Sometimes the best comedy are unsavory truths
Revisado: 12-11-14
If you could sum up Poor-Sucker Syndrome in three words, what would they be?
Delightfully truthful, cringeworthy and undeniably funny
What was one of the most memorable moments of Poor-Sucker Syndrome?
When Leecha moves in with her sister Leechie's boyfriend for a free ride!
Which character – as performed by Robert Armin – was your favorite?
Ray is priceless! He represents every man who has fallen down the abyss!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It's hard to not hate the author and equally hard to argue against anything he says!
Any additional comments?
This book is probably too painful for most men to read and if they don't laugh at it, it's most likely that they have suffered from being taken advantage of. But if make it through this book it is likely that you will be immune to the most obvious tricks in the arsenal of a woman looking to play you!
